I'm thinking about going to the BRKT "Grind In" August 8,9,and 10, in Escanaba, Michigan.
I'm wondering if anyone in here has ever been to one? And would it be worth the approximate $700. in gas alone, to swim in Lake Michigan and grind my own knife?

Thanks in advance, CM.

I used to live in Gladstone which is right next to Escanaba. It is very much worth the $ to go. I loved living there! My house was on a bluff off of US-2 and overlooked Lake Michigan. Nice place to visit! Go for it!

Where do you live? Have you ever been to Michigan in August before?

I live in Oregon, and yes I have been in southern Michigan during the summer. (Just 20 miles or so up from the IN. border) I know the humidity can be pretty uncomfortable, but I Enjoyed my visit there very much.

My curiosity really has more to do with the Grind In. Is it a good time? Or is it like being in school for a two day seminar and then finally getting to make your knife? (I know swimming in lake Mich. will be good!) Also I'm figuring a visit to Glacier Natl. Park on the flip flop would be great. I'm just not sure if the drive all the way to MI. is worth the event.

Did you ever go G-Vant?

PS. to G-Vant. I lived in Kill Devil Hills, NC. for about 1-1/2 years. Great
place to learn hangliding; Jockeys Ridge!

I never went. I only lived up there for about 3 years. It's still a nice place to visit and I would recomend it to anyone.

Where is Kill Devil Hills located in NC? I'm in Wilmington, so I'm in the most South Eastern corner.

I probably will go to the Grind In. It's hard to resist the opportunity to have an expert help me make my very own knife! Lottsa great country to see too. I'll just have to close my eyes and use my credit card at the pump!

As for KDH, It's in the NE corner of the state. Follow the outer banks coastline north for about 200 miles.(from Wilmington) It's right next to Kitty Hawk and the Wright Brothers Natl. Memorial.

It's a great roadtrip up the outer banks. A couple of ferry boat rides and driving along the Natl. Seashore. Okracoke Island, Cape Hatteras and the light house. Then when you get to Nags Head and Jockeys Ridge, (highest sand dune on the east coast) if they have any tandem (hang gliding) instructors there, you can take a short lesson and then a tandem flight.(wind permitting) It's one of the coolest things you"ll ever do!!! (Tell em "Tall Paul"s brother sent you. He {Tall Paul} used to instruct there.)

PS. Wilmington is a great small city/town! I miss NC. sometimes until I remember the humidity . . . but still . . . THE SEAFOOD!!
