Should I wave this?

Got this Timberline Special Service for a song, hate the diamond shaped opening hole. I could wave it, I suppose, should I? Would that adversely affect strength in a practical sense?

It wont damage the strenth of the blade necessarily, but the constant waving action WILL wear the lockbar and eventually cause rock between the engagement surfaces. Since it's completely pinned together you won't be able to adjust anything

Absolutely! Especially with the inexpensive ones!
At the very least, it will be a learning experience.

IIRC this is an old Spyderco designed for Timber. Perhaps there's collectible value due to history/rarity.

Having said that, it's your knife, do as you like ;). Lateral (prying) strength might be affected. Beyond that, I can't see it failing with normal use.

Actually, this is a case where I DO have another, pristine example, which I would NOT mess with.

And you know what? I'm ON this, on this little project like a hobo on a ham sandwich (no, I said "hobo")
