i just stripped 4 of my busses (natural finish looks amazing especially on my nmsfno), my question is should i worry about the coating under the handle? or should i take the handles off and clean it up? i want the protection under there but if it will cause more harm than good, i will get it de-coated under the handles. suggestions or insite from the wise hogs?

Leave the coating under the scales it will protect the tang from rust, if you take the scales off and strip it make sure you put some glue under the scales to seal it.

i was planning on leaving the coating i just wasnt sure if the stripper would be able to get under the handles and cause problems.

i did the same thing that adrock1978 did. i lay the knives on a piece of cardboard and used the Klean-strip. took it right off, then used a toothpick to go around the handle edges to clean as much of the coating up as a could

I have stripped quite a few chunks of INFI and never stripped under the slabs. Has worked great for me.

awesome. just wanted to make sure i wouldn't have to worry about blood rusting out under the handles and moisture problems.

thanks hogs!:)

I prefer to leave the finish under the handles. No real reason to get rid. Unless you are finishing the blade to a high degree, then taking the handles off makes that easier. I left the finish under the scales of several Busse, and never had any issues with it.

The coating left under the handles will not cause any problems. Like stated above, if anything it will add a layer of protection from any foreign matter that may seep under the handle.

P.S. Got Pics?

if i only had one...:D
