Okay, guys here is my dilemma. While I love my Mnandi, I have never used it and only carried it once. The reality is that is seems too darn nice and I am happy carrying and using my Classic with Bocote Inlays. I have also become smitten with the Umnumzaan after reading everyone's reviews of it here, and believe that I would actually use it. Given that I can't afford to buy an Umnumzaan outright at the moment, would it be CRK sacrilege to trade my Mnandi for a Umnumzaan especially if the Mnandi will only end up being a safe queen? If not, please let me know if you know someone that might have an interest such a trade.

Yes, the crk gods will be highly displeased. Donate money to the umnum cause and ask forgiveness for your sinfull thoughts :D

I would say to trade away any safe queens so you can get your hands on a Umnumzaan. The true pleasure of Chris Reeve knives come from using them.

I traded 2 mnandi safe queens away for other knives. One went for a Neil Roberts with regular and kydex sheath. The other, along with a small sebenza safe queen was traded for my first XM-18. I always have a hard time trading away CRK knives, so I feel your pain. I have a umnumzaan and love it and I am sure you will too. I have written a ton of posts on it and how much I like it, feel free to look through them. "Zyhano" has also written many posts on his as well.

I have been thinking about selling my moonsong sebenza and buying either a tanto umnumzaan or wilson tactical umnumzaan. But havent done so yet. I might very well, who knows !!!

My advise through experience, trade the mnandi for the umnumzaan. Both are awsome knives, but you will not be afraid to use the umnumzaan, believe me......Mine has gone through the mill and hardly has any marks to show for it. Tough as nails.

Let us know what you decide and make sure to post pics when you get one........We Love Pics !!!

I vote you trade the mnandi, you'll probably be happier with the umnumzaan.

Thanks for the advice guys. Nyefmaker, I am glad that you provided input given that it was your posts that started my whole Umnumzaan infatuation. I guess that I will put the Mnandi up on the trade forums and see what happens.

I have been having the same dilemma with other knives...I haven't come to a conclusion, but I think the point might be that if you are really afraid to use it, maybe you don't really like it 100 percent?

Freq,
I understand where you are coming from, but that is not the case with me. I actually have a number of knives that I absolutely love 100%, but I would never use them because they are meant to be safe queens or given to my children when they get older. What I have realized is that I bought the Mnandi to be my everyday user. Given that I got the CRK bug and I immediately bought a Classic, I find that I don't want to use the Mnandi because it is so nice. I don't want to give the Mnandi to my kids or let it sit in a safe, so another user seems to be in order. That having been said, if I had the expendable income, I would probably just buy an Umnumzaan and keep the Mnandi for special occasions.

IMHO, sell the classic to buy a Umnumzaan to use.

Keep the Mnandi for dressier occasions.

Of course, later on you will want to buy another Sebenza, just because,,,,

I would say trade the Mnandi towards an Umnumzaan, but I've traded Sebenzas and an Mnandi for other knives, and wish that I had them all back...

I traded away

small micarta Sebenza; large cocobolo Sebenza, BG42 large regular Sebenza, small classic Sebenza, small regular Sebenza, small African blackwood Sebenza, Mnandi (don't remember the wood, wanna say cocobolo), Aviator, Green Beret 2.

Man, I would like to have all of them now. The Nyala, small micarta classic, large micarta classic, and Umnumzaan have helped to heal the pain ;).

I think large and small desert ironwood Sebenzas, desert ironwood Mnandi, Mountaineer II, and that new GG Hawk model will alleviate the pain.

While that is an option, I won't ever part with my classic as it was born on my B'day.

This is why I always had the policy to trade or sell a CRK, ONLY to get another CRK. I did stray from this lately and traded and sold a few CRK and my 2 Busse Knives also to acquire the couple Xm-18's I now have. I did not have the funds to buy them. The ones I sold/traded were my least favorites, so it was not as painful as I thought. Still wish I had my Aviator though and I liked my Busse NMFBM. But I also really like the 3 XM's I have, so its all good.

I am Humbled by your comments, Thanks very Much........If you have a nice mnandi with paperwork, you should be able to make an even trade for a like new or new umnumzaan here on the forum. Both knives are similar in value, especially if the mnandi has a nice wood..

What inlay do you have on the mnandi ??

The Mnandi has Tamboti Inlay, is pristine and comes with paperwork, box, and allen key.

WOW, bet she is pretty. I would settle for nothing less than an EVEN Trade. If I had another zaan, I would definately consider it !!!
