Should more GEC's have brass bolsters?

Do you think GEC should put brass bolsters on more of their knives?

I think it would be nice with something different than the ordinary bolsters.

New to traditional folders, so have to ask... Is brass preferred or better than steel? Or steel better? I know some may like the appearance one way or the other, but functionally is one superior to the other?

No, I don't think they should myself. I've had some old Gerber, Puma and Buck lockbacks with brass bolsters but I don't care for brass on other types of knives.

God no! Not a fan of brass at all, makes a knife look cheap IMO. Buck and Schrade can pull it off on the big hunters but that is about it. Just doesn't look right on a real traditional pattern. Actually I'm not even a big fan of NS. I prefer steel anyday.

Speaking of steel, I don't know for certain but I would guess neither brass or NS would be nearly as strong as steel, especially as a pivot pin.

Verdigris and patina same thing... Corrosion! The purists around here hate brass!

I didn't know they put brass bolsters on any of their knives. If they have, I hope they stop.

I have some knives with brass bolsters. I would prefer they had NS or SS instead or even Carbon Steel like the Barlows, boys knives, and Eureka jacks.

Brass looks good polished, but you can't keep it looking good without more work in my limited experience.

My vote would be NS... it just is MUCH easier to keep looking tarnish free. That said, I can't imagine owning my Buck 110, 112, or model 55, in anything other than brass bolsters. They are the traditional materials for those knives, and just won't be happy with them any other way! :-) Just my 2 cents view :-)

I actually like the traditionals having brass liners. As for my Canal Street having stainless liners.. nice different touch... but brass liners are okay in my book... I mean, they don't call traditional pocket knives, traditional, for nothing ;-)

I go for stainless liners and bolsters. Brass and nickel silver and especially naked corruptible carbon steel liners and bolsters are a cheap cop out. Nice for the bottom line tho'...

I like variety, & I like brass in the mix. I find corrosion is only a problem for safe queens.
Just wondering, why would you like brass liners but not bolsters?

Definitely NOT!! I specifically didn't buy their cotton sampler because of the brass bolster.

The bolsters are just sooo much in the spotlight... and brass bolsters can easily get ugly... just a personal preference for my liking NS for bolsters. But, then again... those Buck 110's, 112's, and 55's, look right to me in brass, so go figure. Just in case, my knives are found with NS, Brass, and Stainless... keeps things interesting... all good :-)

Steel bolsters, that's the ticket ;) and a steel pivot pin would certainly be stronger, probably more work but...

Absolutely not.:thumbdn: In fact, I wouldn't be disappointed to see them do away with brass altogether.
