When you live in Western NC, you get used to it. I'm just not used to being surprised by turning the corner and being 10' away from them in the middle of the day (they are most active at night and at dawn). His back leg looked lame and he was hungry, so he wasn't leaving without some pretty loud recommendations to do so. I did have my Pipsqueak on me, so I'm pretty sure I coulda handled him! :D

And the Pipsqueak I was counting on to take him out if necessary. ;)

Hmm, pipsqueak or ham sandwich!

Oh, bear spray works well too.
Once, I helped transport an injured black bear to a wildlife rehab facility. It was routinely sleeping in the center of a trampoline in someone's backyard. At first, they thought it was weighted down from rain water. The husband went over to tilt the trampoline and his wife said he screamed like a child. Wish I had that on video :D

Be careful man. And "don't feed the bears." Especially ham sandwiches ;)

I didn't scream like a little girl, but it was enough of a surprise that I needed to check my underwear later.

No ham sammiches for him, but he did get some of my garbage. Best thing to do is just put it in the garage for a week or so till he moves on.

Wow buddy!

Bear in the driveway= not cool

Bear Cub by Fiddleback Forge= super cool

^^^ Yes, that is very much cooler.

I was just reading that they came out of hibernation early this year in this area due to warmer temps, and the acorn crop was not good last year. Berries not ripe yet so the bears are moving into the neighborhoods looking for food. Guess I'll be keeping the garbage in the garage for a while.
