Should my Sharpfinger have snapped?

I was replacing some carpet last year and was using my carbon Sharpfinger to cut up the carpet. I also used it to pry up some carpet to get a handhold. I was prying up the carpet itself, not the wooden slats around the edge.

The blade snapped off cleanly at the handle. It was too bad because I really liked that knife but not that big a deal as I only paid $20 for it long ago. Obviously, its not a knife you should pry with, but I was still surprised when it snapped like that under what I would consider a light load.

I was also surprised that it snapped, rather than started to bend. If the tip had snapped that would not have necessarily surprised me because it did come to such a fine point, but right at the base was not expected.

Not questioning whether I should have used it like that, more just whether it was most likely a defect or because of the lack of lateral strength simply to be expected. Either way, the knife is long gone.

Thanks.

I can't answer your question, but sure hate to hear that. I recently bought two of these. You might want to move this to the traditional section.

Doesn't sound right. Take a close look at the break to see if it is a clean break. If it shows staining then the crack may have been there prior to the accident.

^ I second this, it shouldn't have snapped unless previously compromised. Did it snap at the forward bolt-hole?
