Should old threads remain dormant?

I have a question about older threads. I've ran some searches for keywords that interested me and came across some dusty old threads that I felt I had something to add to. But I've seen people been told it was an old thread when they did this and this seems to imply that only fresh threads should be posted into. What's the official BF view on this? Is the info-base extension by adding to older threads welcomed or frowned upon as unnecessary noise?

That's an excellent question. I've always maintained a personal policy of no necroposting in any thread that's been inactive for a year or more. But what is the acceptable activity around here?

You know what happens when you try to make everyone happy? :)

Do what you think best. Some old threads are not very long but do contain currently relevant info. Bring them back! Some threads are pages long and only have a few posts worth reading. Start a new thread -- and put a link to the old thread that inspired it. Then people can go there if they like, knowing it isn't current.

My feeling is exactly as Esav stated. I've mentioned that before to some necroposters.
