Should the whole edge be sharpened?

Hi i just recieved a DDR Gunhammer, but I noticed that at the heel right next to the choil it is not sharp. Not just as in dull but as in not even attempted to be sharpened. If you look at the edge from the top you can see it is completely flat and see the machining marks in it. I am going to sharpen on the edge pro, but i wanted to know if this was a design feature so you would not cut yourself on the choil or what. If its supposed to be there i will not sharpen the heel of the blade. Thanks guys

If that part isn't sharp, it's likely because the blade to handle ratio means that there's very little spare room like there is on many blades. Many people have cut themselves on that part through the back of the handle because there's so little space there between blade and handle.

Don't sharpen it all the way. My Hinderer XM-18 has a blade that is sharp all the way to the beginning of the choil. I cut myself the first time I choked up on the blade to cut something small. Totally my fault but that's the only thing I don't like about the XM-18. Personally, I think all choils should have some sort of 'safety feature' built into them. I've EDC'd a Strider SMF for 7 years and have never cut myself as the choil is virtually idiot proof and extremely usable and safe. My 2 cents.

I don't think that it was designed to be choked up on but I don't know for sure. My index finger is too large for comfort and I'd slice it with hard use if I were to choke up on it. My m390 gunhammer came to me with the weirdest factory grind that I've ever come across but the rear of the edge was sharp. It was nothing the a few minutes on my wicked edge couldn't fix though.

I just put my finger tip in the choil with my nail facing towards the tip. Mine is sharp to the choil but it makes no difference.
