hi I just got my xm 18 3 inch and I noticed a slight blade play up and down, is this normal, have any of you guys had this?

No play at all in my XMs.

Where did you get your XM? Was it direct from Hinderer or secondary market?

Is it new or used?

Sounds like this one needs a trip back to the workshop.

Give Rob a PM/email.

I just recieved my first XM yesterday and noticed the same thing it has no side play but just the slightest up and down play guess I gotta send it in

after careful examination I realized that I was pressing in the lock bar when checking this. I checked without doing this and it is solid. I am getting a armer tool today, what would be the best way to adjust the pivot? by the way Rick makes a awesome knife.

Answer to question - No.
Rock Solid is the correct (and in all liklihood) adjustment.
Watch where your fingers are and cycle the knife several times making sure it seats.
I'm confident "rock solid" will be the verdict in the end.
In the extremely unlikely event that isn't the case - get back to us.

I handled a few Hinderers the last 15 months when I started collecting them, none of them had any up and down play, if that's the case I would send it in.

Also make sure you don't put oil on the lockface, keep it dry and let it break in, but thats a no no for any framelock knife.

I thought Rick said not to use Locktite on XM's.

Only on the pivot (use sparingly), DON'T use it on the standoff screws, the stabilizer screw or the pocket clip/filler screws.

As an alternative to loctite, I use Vibra-Tite VC-3 on the pivot screw when I need something.

I think it might be because of the lockbar tension because I can gently press on mine and the up and down play goes away

I almost ignored this as it screams operator error.

Never had an issue with any of my XMs. Not a fanboy blowing smoke. I'm serious! These did not become my favorite folders by accident or hype.
