The subject comes up again and again, when someone wants to bid on a knife at auction, and a friend or acquaintance has a bid already in. Some have backed off when they see my moniker, and I have done the same. It is a nice gesture, and most always, that special knife you need to fill a hole in your collection will come up again someday, so patience will get you one eventually.
A couple of times, I've set up a snipe 5-6 days ahead, and forgot about it till I get the notice, and Lo and Behold, there is someone I've traded knifelore with, $5.00 behind or ahead of me.
I must say, I don't feel bad either way (well, maybe a little), because, sometimes, I've backed off, and neither of us has won it!
I guess what I'm trying to say is; go for it if you really want it! Especially if there aren't too many of them on the planet. The other week, I outbid a friend on an oldie, and our bids were well above the others, so one of us would have gotten a steal on a great knife if the other had stayed out. But I didn't see him there, and he didn't know I was lying in ambush! I never dreamed he didn't have one, because I thought he had one of everything!
Don't think I don't appreciate gestures; I do!!!!
I just wanted to make sure everyone knows I don't feel insulted or abused by a little competition!
Funny subject this one!
Best to all,

I know what you mean Charlie,I backed off from placing a bid against Codger recently now that I know his handle and it made me feel all warm inside just going back to check how he was going! I'm sure we've traded bids previously however. P.S. Codger didnt win the item but it still didnt seem right to gazuump! Hoo Roo from Oz.

I generally have 5 to 6 auctions going at the same time, and have a lot of holes to fill. Not trying to buy everything for a collection, just get a good selection to show future grandkids (or anyones kids) what once was.
And bidding on 5 to 6 items at any one time, I usually get one per week.
And a lot of what I buy is "Buy it Now" items. If anyone steps on my toes, don't worry, their steel toed boots.
