I have talked too several collectors in the past year that have large collections/acculmations of Bucks...and have no intention or desire to ever display there knives...It seems just a little funny to me since the first goal I had when I started collecting was to get enough 112s for a meaningfull display..I even chose 112s because that was the model I had a hope of [because of budjet] to have a decent number of intresting odd/rare versions in a 1 or 2 years instead of 5 or more...And because it's a bit of a underdog...I realllllly love the Yellowhorse family of Bucks but I knew I would neaver be able to afford that kind of collection. 334Dave collected a lot of 110s befor thinking about Alanta..but his "FUN' factor went way up when he decided to 'share his love' out in public vrs private peek to close freinds/family... Everyone in Alanta last year was having such a great time,It made a big impression on me...So I say if you want to get the most love and fun out of knife collecting and your Bucks,,,show'em off !!!!!!!!!!!

well it is not so easy for many... most have a friday set up ...
are not close to home and some dont have dispalys they can use for public show..

now that said... to thoes that have not shown at a show..
it is a blast!! first other buck collectors will be there fast and many will have questions..
then there is the blast of being at another display table and watching some one bend over to get a good look at a knife in your display!!
then there is the looking at others displays ... what is in them and how they are made both have an effect on the over all impression.
swapping stories and learning more that you did not know before!
then there is the wandering around looking at other displays and sellers and seeing what they have! ya never know when or ware a good one will pop up!

it is fun and exciting .. and BCCI will be makeing an appearance in florida at lake city this comeing year and could be that some time soon in dallas at the sperit of steel show!

it is fun> informative> exciteing> why NOT show!

If you're talking about home display, I have a small display. Total value is probably $1500, and that's the most I'll ever keep out.

Other stuff is locked up and I sometimes rotate some stuff around. I also lock up a few treasured things if I'm going to be gone on vacation or otherwise gone for a while.

I guess it's a compromise solution.

well 1500 is not small ...
i did have case in bedroom but friend of wifes friend made comment and i took all expensive ones down.. as case did not lock..
non up at home now...
my question is if a bcci show was close would you display them there?

I got nothing compared to most folks on this forum.

No, I have an accumulation, not a collection. I have a couple of old Westerns and a couple of Case and a couple of Ruger-marked Case and a CRKT and a couple of 1986 Ken Richards and one Knives of Alaska and one cool and nameless old Bowie and a small family of Bucks that are mostly 110s and 120s.

No rhyme or reason. I buy based on what I think is a REALLY good deal on something I kinda like myself.

Not a collector and I just have some out because I like looking at them.

I have some in a small old BuckKnife display case in my room... Love just to look at them... I would take some of them to a show and display them... I don't have much, but I like what I have... I'm sure it would be lots of fun to show my knives...

I have one of Daves old display cases [holds 12-15 ] but I am working on a radical display for my 112s...It will be motorised! [just a small part] I cant wait for my first show, most likly the Gator show here in Florida [around feb?] I will be at Alanta for the 2009 Blade show for sure...Armond, its not what you have but what ya do with it! You made a killer score on rare Bucks I KNOW lots of Bucknuts WANT to see...DO IT ! DO IT!

It takes a lot of work to put together a display. It is not just a matter of putting knives in a case although this can be an expensive proposition. The story you tell with your display is really what sets it apart. By story I mean the background on the knives in the display. The award winning displays all have a lot of background material on the knives either as descriptions of individual knives or the collection or both. Further, another serious issue with traveling with a display is security. I travel alone and would be crushed if I had to leave my car on the highway to get help for car trouble only to find my knives gone when I got back to the car. Another consideration is damage to the knives in transit. It is not always easy to pack your knives so they don't get dinged along the way. I think the more you put into your collection the harder it becomes to want to expose yourself to the cost, effort and risks just mentioned to show off your knives. I appreciate those who do display but completely understand when someone doesn't want to. The picture threads on this forum seem to be a happy medium in dealing with the issues.

I don't think you have to have an award winning display at a knife show, just to show some of your knives... It would look a lot better if you had the story, background and description about your knives for sure... ... I'm not out to win any awards, just show (off) some of my knives, but that me... They may not be much to most people but there mine... ;) ... I don't want to get to serious about showing my knives, just have some fun and meet other knife collector's... :) ... But that's me again... :D ... 334Dave has a winning award display and I would love see it someday... :D... I would hate for anything to happen to my knives... But S*&% happens... I have never display any knives, but hope to someday and when I do I sure hope nothing get damage or dinged up... ... Richard you do have a good point about displaying your knives for sure...

Many moons ago, Nixon was Prez, when I was fresh from the USN and back at Auburn, I took a sociology elective - 'Archaeology'. I learned to differentiate between 'pot-hunters' and 'archaeologists', so called amateurs and professionals. The pro's generally had a university - or Fed grants - backing them, the amateurs had beer money. The pro's displays and logging were exquisite - and kept in store rooms. The amateur's were all over their living rooms - and proudly shown to many more folks. I am a 'pot-hunter' style knife collector.

I lucked out last year. My wife outgrew one of her collectible store displays, a great place to find some discontinued stock's display cabinet. I paid $75 for it - and it is just over six feet tall, with the removeable top half being an all glass hex display case with two fixed glass shelves and a pair of halogen bulbs at the top. The bottom pressboard/laminate cabinet has a lockable door - as does the glass upper - and both use the same key. I have knives on display above; boxes, spares, & sheaths below. I sometimes just stare... the picture below is of the second shelf, with the Buck 102, 103, 105, 119, & 120, all BRs, in a stand. To the left are my Pumas. In the right front is a B R TUSK, etc, an ecclectic mix. The 110s, etc, are above, while the Bowies, KaBars, Marbles, etc, are on the bottom mirrored.

I also finally got one of those large oak mechanics tool chests from Harbor Freight, the first two being absconded by my wife - for jewelry boxes! In mine I keep my SAKs, small folder, etc - pretty barren for now. It's also on the floor - awaiting a bookcase's fixed shelf. My bookcases now have Harbour Lights lighthouses on them (Anyone want a collection?). Therein is the problem... too many 'collectibles' in this house. At least my knives stay dust & cat hair free. I don't have the type of 'collection' that one would take to a knife convention... the two Buck CS 110s are my finest fare. But, you know, I like it - and enough other folks have seen and been impressed by that big case that I do enjoy showing them. Of course, the usual remarks, "He's nuts!", "She should have him committed!!", and my favorite, "Loon!". Seriously - look for some affordable 'discards' at a collectible store.

i am humbled once again for my lack of thought in that i did not think to say of what you have said referencing the information Rich! i put together a book with number of each knife in the displays as there is so much to tell on each but yet i only seen one person in Atlanta take time to look through it..
i was sad... yet to say much other then year made is hard with so little room..
if i was there many asked me on this one or that one ... 98% of the public jest looked much the same as they did at the for sale cases...

many were shocked that i would unlock and open a case to take 'that' knife (that they were looking at) out for some one to have a look in hand!
IN this i found all (that had looked at any single one knife) were really and truly pleased.. and i got the most KicK out of doing!!
NO i dont recommend any one else doing that !
this is privilege is normally only granted to other collectors... but i am a trusting sort any way ..

the shipping - you are so right !!
i sweated hard tell i was told Joe got mine OK!
and i have seen were cases got delivered to the wrong place...

also-
wow stains that is one great looking case and what a splendid idea !!
