More than three good folders?
I'm asking this because I've dwindled my collection down to 3 good folders that I use(ZT 0560, Spyderco Stretch, Spyderco Chokwe).
I have 2, that I don't use and am considering getting rid of.
I have 3 Balisongs.. I really love them but am considering getting rid of them for more folders. I don't know if I actually NEED more folders.. or if it's just that I'm used to having more.
Do you actually NEED more, or is it just our brains that tell us we NEED them?

I'm wondering because I'm not sure what I should do. Should I just keep what I have and be happy and use these knives for a long time? Or should I get more?

I know this is probably a dumb question but I'm really wondering. Is more really better? Or is a small quanity of great knives just as good as having 50 knives?

I think it has very little to do with needing at all. I certainly don'need my entire collection, but I do like them and can afford them so it's easy to have a bunch.

Well.. I don't like having a bunch sitting around that I don't do anything with..
Now I'm wondering if I should get more so I'll have them and such.
I don't have the money is the bad part. And just traded a knife for some awesome custom scales for my two favorite folders.
I don't know if I should have more knives than I do.
I have just over a dozen knives/knife related things.
The number used to be much larger. I'm not sure if I should have more.

I'm in the same place. I now have my Gryphon m10, Spyderco Manix 2 Stag Arms XL, ZT 0560, Spyderco Citadel, Ontario RC3, (soon a SwampRat) as my quality everyday knives. Then I have my waved Endura, Gerber Combat Folder, CS Recon 1 (old version), CS Large Voyager, CS Spartan. Mainly as beater knives.....I don't really need anymore folders at the moment. Although, if I run into something that I feel like I have to have, I might buy it; If I have the funds.

I think really though, I want to focus on a quality sharpening system, like the wicked edge.

I would say do as you feel. I don't like to collect knives, but use them and carry them. If you find that you're not using a knife, get rid of it.

I think two of each kind of knife is all you "need." that way if on fails, you have a backup, but what you WANT as a collector is just as important.

=] Awesome. I've got it covered.
Though, knock on wood, I don't see any of my knives failing.
And there is of course... birthdays, christmas, money that comes around. And I bet you can guess what is bought. :D
I'm really not much of a collector as I use my knives.
I love having cool knives of course but the truth is.. I can't stand seeing them all just sit there. I'll let them stay for a while and then hate just letting them sit there as they should be truly appreciated by a user or serious collector.

Everybody has to decide for themselves. I went a long time with just one EDC folder. Well I had several but basically when I got a new one I would start carrying it and stop carrying the previous ones. I felt bad that some weren't getting used but I also had a problem with not carrying the latest purchase. Then I got into watch collecting and found that those people had a way to rotate through their various watches so they would wear all of them. I decided to try that with my EDC folders, of which I have 7 as of right now. This is probably too many and a few of these might drop out of the rotation eventually. I think a rotation is good for this, it shows you which ones you want to carry and which ones you don't, so the problem sort of solves itself.

Nope, you're absolutely right. Three is the limit.

Thanks for all of the replies guys.
I've done the whole rotation thing but realize that I find myself grabbing for the same knives daily.
The only one that has periodically changed has been my secondary folder. And even it doesn't really change, especially since I've found my perfect one.
So I guess I'm good to go where I am and should probably hold onto my balisongs as I enjoy them very much and probably won't come across another Spyderco Spyderfly in VG-10.

This is my current EDC rotation. I truly believe these would last me for a long time if not forever. And like I said.. there is always more to come with birthdays and holidays. =]

I say find the folders you want and keep the ones of other categories you like. I went to my buddies house (same property) last night and if I had my EDC I still would hav3 wanted the fixie I took down there.

Mountain lions, bears, oh my. Yes both have been here in the last month. I do get a bit schwilly down there a bit of the time so I am not bringing a pistol. I do not think a lotto winning chance of catching an innocent is worth my life. Yes, I am schwilly now btw

I believe I'm going to keep what I have.
Thanks for all of the help guys.
Now just can't wait for my birthday to come! Thinking on picking up a Kershaw Turbulence for my birthday. I'm going to be 21. =]

I'll shut this thread down now so it doesn't take space of more important questions for people.

Thanks again!

Thanks,
Jessie
