Shouldn't the Chinese models be cheaper?

I was in a store that used to carry Schrade and noticed they have switched over to the imported models. I then noticed they still had a couple of real Schrades left. They had 5 or 6 Sharpfingers, a Cave Bear, and 2 Beasts. None were discounted.
Here is the kicker. The real ones were behind glass close to where they keep their ammo. The imposters were clam packed and hanging on the shelves.
Cost of a USA made 152.........$25
Cost of a Chinese made 152.......$25
They only person getting a deal from importing these is Mr. Taylor himself.

Two women were looking at the Taylors and some Winchesters. I made sure to point out that the American flag on the front didn't mean it was made in the U.S. After learning that fact they decided to go with the Winchester because it was cheaper and made in the same place. They seemed to think $10-$15 was a lot for a knife so I didn't try to talk them into something decent.

Don't know how they could be much cheaper.....but they might be less expensive.

They do generally list for about half what the real knives do/did. Wah-Maht regularly sold way under MSRP but the 2004 list on the 152OT Sharpfinger was $37.95. You can buy the Chitaylor copy for $12 on the net. So, Taylor is likely selling a knife that cost him $2 for $6-8 to his dealers. Those are just educated guesses. Perhaps someone will email him (the e-mail address is posted here somewhere) and ask. I am sure he will be glad to tell you. He might even tell you which Laogai in which provences make them.

(Laogai : The Laogai is the vast labor reform system in the People's Republic of China. The Laogai was created by the Chinese Communist Party under Mao Zedong, yet it still serves the one-party dictatorship as the primary instrument for detaining political dissidents and penal criminals. The two major aims of the Laogai are to use all prisoners as a source of cheap labor for the communist regime and to "reform criminals" through hard labor and compulsory political indoctrination. )

Phil, the store you visited seems sky-high. Those Chinese/Taylor 152 are $12 (but out of stock) at SMKW.

But $25 for a USA Schrade 152OT ain't bad, if you go by eBay prices.

Do you recall how much the Cave Bear 7OT was? I just sent a fellow forumite $20 (includes shipping) for a new U.S. made one with sheath. Seemed like a fair price to me.

A U.S. Schrade 7OT listed in 2004 for $56.95. It is a nice fistfull of knife, and would likely do it's duty on a deer or elk with grace. At just ove half a pound, it does require a belt sheath. My full size trailing point 165OT Deerslayer is only a half ounce heavier. I have to attribute most of that weight to the thick brass bolsters and liners used on the 7OT. The 6OT sheds about two ounces of that by deleting the rear bolster, and using slightly thinner front bolsters and liners. Both are nice knives.

Guyon,
I think it was going for $29. I forgot they also had a LB7 but it was around $36-38. While those prices aren't bad I have had better luck at flea markets.
$20 with shipping sounds like a deal to me.
