So I bought a PM2 M4 a couple weeks back and the seller polished up the edge for me before he sent it, finishing on 1 micron paste on leather and damn did it shine! Thing would pop hair with ease too. But after a bit of use, I figured it was time to touch it up. Kind of a bittersweet moment because I figured I wouldnt be able to get near as beautiful of an edge with just a sharpmaker as the seller did with his KME and the assortment of lapping films and pastes. I was wrong. You can see the scratch pattern from the KME and 1 micron paste in the pic with denim behind it. Dont let it fool you though, the edge was still a mirror as you can see from the Northern Tool catalog. The plaid backing and playing card are after putting it on the Spyderco ultra fine ceramics. None of the scratches are visible with the naked eye, so Im surprised the camera even picked them up. Again, huge shoutout to Spyderco for making such quality stones.

I get really nice results with the fine stones. I may have to pick up the ultra fine rods soon... It is so tempting.

Just a heads up, the $16 is for one and you need to order 2 if you're going to use the in the sharpmaker.

YES!! My apologies. I got mine as a gift, so the wife ordered them. I just looked at the order and saw the $16, but after I read your comment, I went back and looked at the order details. $16.25 x 2.

Good catch, thanks Steve!

Yep... Still, 32 bucks is cheap compared to the diamond rods, which I also have... Lol I'll get the ufs soon!

Typically I use the Ultrafine Ceramics instead of stropping.

Yeah, no doubt. I need the CBN or diamonds for light reprofiling work in the field myself. I do a lot of sharpening at work and I work in the field, so I need something super portable. Company reps come in my unit and like to sharpen their knives while they are "overseeing" my work, and the sharpmaker is easier than a KME or WE Go, so it works for me. For what Ill have in my sharpmaker, I probably could buy a WE Go though lol.

I use my lansky or a stone to get my bevel close, then finish it on the diamond rods. Works like a charm!

I need to just get some of the congress tools stones for reprofiling. Then I can just use the sharpmaker and streamline my process.

Wow, didn't ever think to look for additional stones. I've had my sharaker for ten years and just pulled it back out a few weeks ago. My wife was quite impressed with the properly sharpened kitchen knives. I just ordered the ultrafine stones!

Love the ultra fine rods! They really help get it just that much sharper! The diamonds are worth it as well.

My Spyderco Ultra Fine benchstone is one of my most used stones. Same things as the Sharpmaker rods but in a Benchstone. I can easily get a nice polished edge with it.

depending on the steel (like supermarket cheap stuff), the UF is not super suitable for shearing off stubborn micro burrs.

Best to knock off burrs on a muddy stone and then do the final apexing on the ceramic. If the stone is blunted from use then it'll burnish instead of cut, and it'll just push the edge back and forth. When that happens, it needs re-dressing. Because of how hard and unyielding sintered material is you have to use a very light touch in your finishing strokes.

If I were and looking to add stones I would get Baryonyx stones any over Congress tools stones,I have Congress stones and they are not terrible stones but for the money they are waste if you ask me they break down faster then what you need or at least the Silicon Carbide stones break to fast in my opinion.

Don't get me wrong I'm all about having a water stone break down at a fast enough rate to reveal fresh sharp abrasive but theirs are to fast if your asking me.
I forget witch grit the stone was I got from them and it was a Silicon Carbide stone that was 1x6 that I was using on my Tsprof and the thing wore so fast it looked like an old fashioned washboard, not all of mine did that either just the one and it didn't soak very long either.

Give FortyTwoBlades a shout and see what he has for sale.
