OK folks. Let me start this thread by allowing that I was priviledged to have been chosen as the Show Photogrpaher for the prestigious and inaugural Chicago Custom Knife Show.

To that end, I worked relentlessly shooting photos for three and a half days at the show, and I finish my editing back in my studio. As I write this it is still a work in progress, but I have completed enough images to start a post. I really tried as hard as I could to represent their work in a pleasing manner. I think you will agree at the outcome.

As I finish more and more, I will add to the post. Every maker's work whom I photographed deserves specific mention, but it would be too cluttered to do individual posts. So I will contain myself to just one lengthy post here.

I'll add comments about the work as I can. Maybe the Mods will allow me to keep it in here if I keep it relevant... ;)

First up is a beautiful little hunter by Ed Brandsey, who gave a seminar at the show. That is gold--REAL Gold in those parts. It's a helluva knife.

Don Cowles is the KING of small gent's fixed blades. Here's why...

Don Hanson. No longer the 'King' of gent's folders, but now a ardent maker of fine fixed blades. This was posted before the show by him.

Here is a Show-Stopper. This one won Best Fixed Blade, in a show attended by some of the top names to be found anywhere. Take a deep bow, Don!

Speaking of awards--How about a good close look at the knife that WON 'Best of Show'. And the kicker is it's not even done by someone reknowned as a knifemaker. Ray Cover Jr. is hailed as one of the best engravers in the world, and his skills extend to anything he wishes. Look in wonderment at his 'Koi Fish' folder...

I need a short break. My eyes are glazed! :)

Since we were talking about Ray Cover, let's take another look at his work. This time on an exquisite auto folding dagger made by Joe Kious. It's one of those special-grade of knives where if you *have* to ask, it's probably too much... ;)

Michael Walker's work is one of the few who can challenge Joe Kious in the ring. This was for a savvy collector.

Philip Booth has made a name for himself with smaller knives. He has elevated the 'Sommelier's knife' to a level unprecedented. It's an auto on both ends. Watch your fingers when that little guy shoots out!

Kaj Embretsen hails from one of the Nordic countries. He knows a thing or two about knives and arctic climes. Just look at the work and scene on this pearl beauty. The scrim (unknown artist to me?) is on pearl and it has an 'icy' look that is incomparable to the scene.

I need another breath... :D

Canada brings us many fine gifts. One of them is Mastersmith Wally Hayes. Here is a period Bowie that is clean, hefty, and exemplary all at the same time.

Another collector pulled me aside and asked if I would be able to 'find the time' to photograph his knife. "Sure", says I. "Show me what you got." He proceeds to pull this out and allows that Rick Eaton wished I could do an image. BOY was I happy to do so!

Back at it. Look for more as I do so. Hope you don't mind my flagrant promotion of good makers and their work. :p

Awesome pics as usual Coop!

Do you have anything more "blacktical" though ;)

You da man, Coop! You get ta handle ALL the purty 'stuff'......

Words could not express........

Coop, I could be wrong on this one, but it looks to me that the scrimshaw on the Embretsen folder was done by Viveca Sahlin. I believe they're friends and it looks very similar to the work that she does. She's an OUTSTANDING scrimshander!

Really, I'm totally stunned and amazed that Coop was able to take all these killer pics, what with me annoying him all weekend. ;) :D

Those are some really awesome shots! :)
