OK, so I don't know a ton about GECs, and I just dropped money on my first one (an ebony 83), but haven't seen it yet due to being stationed elsewhere. I just came across the acorn shielded, squirrel etched GECs. Now I'm hoping I find one, since my kids love to go squirrel hunting, and someday one of them will get the knife.

I'd really like to see what you folks have, just to see the beauty of their variations.

Thanks!

As I'm in Europe, our Red Squirrels are different from your N.American ones (smaller and with tufted ears, red in summer, greyer, brown or black in winter) Was watching one burying nuts on the lawn in the block I live in in the centre of the town the other day:thumbup:

Here's a 73 in Sheffield bone converted into single blade by Glennbad on this forum.

That's all I have, really wish GEC would make more stainless but I rather think the owner doesn't favour stainless knives too much. Pity as there is a rich potential. I'd be knocked out by a 38 Whittler 2 blade (or 3) with stainless blades and liners or NS liners, epic!

I totally agree. I'd divest myself of all but 1 of my 1095 GECs and buy stainless models if they were regularly available. Gorgeous knives, everyone. That purple #25 above is stunning!

I've just got these two:

Rick, once again, you display excellent taste in knives. :) As you may recall, as it was your zebrawood, passed along to sitflyer, that was the igniting factor in my love of #25s. Your original ironwood, shown by sitflyer and first riveting my attention to the WLST® pattern, I have dubbed "The Culprit." :D

Here's mine (my only stainless GEC, my only haycorn knife):

I love the juxtaposition of blade etch and shield, the squirls coming near but of course never reaching the haycorn:

To the OP: I fear that some of these are but a tease, given their scarce availability.

Also? A hopefully helpful heads up: GEC is phasing out their squirrel/acorn branding. Going forward, they will not be using the squirrel logo/etch on their stainless knives, or on their other promotional/identifying materials.

This development saddens me.

In other words, while one can never rule anything out when it comes to GEC(!), I would recommend not putting one's hope in a future run of knives.

Sarah, thanks for linking that thread. It sure did bring back some fond memories.

That's too bad about the squirrel/acorn branding. It's one of the few blade etches that I actually like. I hope they at least continue to use the acorn shield from time to time. I like it too.

I entirely agree, on both counts.

Agree as well. Oddly, I never picked one of these up. I wish I would have now.

P, can you provide more info on the box?

Thanks

Sometimes, the decisions of knife companies perplex me: CASE shelves its cv Swayback Jack in Chestnut, Buck drops yellow delrin, GEC may abolish the squirrel etch one of their very best, not to mention very tidy stainless too:confused::confused::rolleyes:

Best laid plans of mice & men....or squirrels in this case:D

In 2011, GEC produced a collector's set composed of an elk-handled Conductor, a wooden box, and a leather knife sleeve. I've visited this set every year at GEC's Rendezvous, hankering hard after the box but not liking the knife itself well enough to pay for the full-price set.

When I arrived at the Rendezvous this year (2015), I asked again about the box(es) [it's one of my Traditions], and was delighted to learn that at some point in the past year GEC finally broke up the unselling set; the knives were sold on their own, leaving the boxes now available as stand-alones-- if yet unpriced. In light of my Pursuit, Mr. Howard finally fixed a price, and I became an even happier Rendezvous camper.

Two pieces of solid wood with a machined insert, the GEC logo, and simple (non-sprung) hardware-- perfect!

That GEC is now phasing out this logo makes me all the gladder for the box and slip....

This whole time I've been waiting to see a squirrel shield...:foot:

Maybe if you squint...?
