I see the other pattern and makers threads. The show me picture sets. But none for the Michigan. No love for the pattern that hung around? Is it because it was tainted by axe shaped objects at the hardware store?
I do not care, let's show off the hard working, long lasting, hard hitting Michigan.

I will add pictures soon.

Michigan and Dayton styles are all that are left in the way of axe shapes in my local stores. Matter of fact referring to a Chinese square poll axe as a "Michigan" requires artistic license in any event.

Calling some of the things labeled "axe" at my hardware store is a stretch.

Michigans never had the slightest appeal to me. Why would you round a poll other than to keep it from wearing through hangers or holsters on a jiggling horse or cart, or dissuade users from using the polls as hammers? Dayton style (straight and squared polls) have always outsold Michigans, by a long shot, up this way.

I have always been more concerned with the other end. The good ones are set up for softwood and seem to carry over well. This is not one of the good ones.

While they can "hang" balanced well adjusted by a good handle, they always balance bit heavy in hand.

Michigan's are in my opinion one of the most attractive looking patterns.

This collins homestead was my great grandfather's and currently remains unhung until I have the need for a full sized felling axe.

The poll of a Michigan is perfectly usable. As I pointed out in another thread it's actually more forgiving of a slightly missed blow on a felling wedge. There's no sharp corner to damage modern plastic felling wedges. But for driving wood stakes I prefer the square poll of the Dayton which is less likely to slip off a wood stake.

Here are a few I've owned.

The Craftsman is the only one of these I still own. It's got great shape and cuts like a dream for small axe. Plus it has a great feeling vintage handle.

I've never seen an ugly axe, until now!

Have my TT double Michigan online, but can't get it in post. I like Michigan pattern, very sensible. Probably gets no respect because it is too common!

PS, let's try this:

I just did up this craftsman hollow ground last night. You can see the hollow grind a bit in the last picture.
