"The most useful knife is the one you have on you...

Well - these are on me all the time, even in the shower and at night / in bed.

My Spyderco ARK has been recently paired with a Benchmade H2O rustproof N680 rescue fixed blade. The holes in the sheaths lined up perfectly.

Add to that a compass, a micro Fox 40 whistle and a 150 lumen flashlight and you got yourself a pretty compact rescue kit tucked away for a rainy day!

Both fixed blade neck knives have a retention button on their sheaths, to release the knife only when desired, for added safety.

Both knives and sheath systems are very thin and lend themselves to this type of application.

I always also have the Salt 2 folder on my waistband, as an easily accessible heavy user.

Maybe I'll pair the spyderco whale rescue blade with it next, for a triple-decker rig!! 😱🤔🤔🤔

I imagine that the neck rig is hanging with his shirt, just outside the shower. Likewise at sleepy-time, it's easy to access without leaving the comfort of the mattress, but not physically inside the airspace above the bed.

This is the internet, and you gotta be pecific about these things.

I've always kinda fancied the idea of making up some kind of "just essentials" neck/pocket/piggyback sheath, like this. I have trouble finding the upper limit on the concept of "just essentials". I know that a spare pair of earbuds and a phone charger don't meet the criteria, but what about a pair of Knipex?

Very interesting set up. I like it. How does that neck set up feel weight-wise?
It's not bad at all. I had all of the stuff on my neck for years and just recently added the Benchmade. It's very slim and light and with the sheath, I think it's another 5 oz or so...

After 1-2 days, I didn't notice the difference.

And to bed? If camping, ok. But every day in bed? That’s a true knife nut
I don't really expect to have to use it in bed for self-rescue...

But the reason I have it is so it's ALWAYS present. If I have to get out quick in a fire, or a tree falls on the house, etc... It's on me and I don't have to think of worry about forgetting it.

I like systems. I think once and then don't have to think again. 😜

Also, for camping, the BK14 I have in my pocket sheath that doubles as my wallet is what will keep me alive in the woods.

These neck blades are more for urban, natural disaster or maritime rescue.

If a building ends up on top of me... THEN we will see who's laughing last!!
🤔🤔🤔😜😂🤣😂🤣

Literally around my neck while sleeping and showering.

I only take it off for (ironically) freediving, sex (it swings around!) or workouts.

My shoulder harness setup has all the gear I need for outdoor survival, built on stock BK14 sheaths:

And maybe LEAST surprisingly at this point... I also have a small pair of 4" knipex in a pocket sheath for the "extra" pocket in 5.11 pants / jeans.

I carry a lighter with it.. but those little channel locks and a SAK is superior to a full sized Leatherman, IMO.

Dude, more power to ya. I used to get laughed at on the watch forums cause I wore my watch in the shower so I kinda get it.…… kinda. 😁

You HEATHEN! 😜🤣

Even I take my watch off to shower...

...basically because over time, you get soap buildup on the watch / bracelet.

I wear my watch in the shower. My morning is structured down to the minute from 3:20am until 8am, and I honestly need to know that it is exactly 7:34 so that I can get out and be in my truck by 7:45. Then again, most people on a watch forum aren't going to be too impressed with my $38 Casio 😀

Now being saddled with a bunch of stuff around my neck? Nah. I don't care how lightweight it is. I wear a little brass pendant on a dog tag chain that is about as heavy as the ARK, but I couldn't deal with something that size against me all the time.

I do wear a Spydie Edge ARK to the beach. It's a great way to carry a little blade that can open snacks and trim things without needing to worry if the ocean is going to steal it. Other than that, I don't really like having a bunch of crap hanging off my person regardless of the what-ifs. Then again to each their own. I know some of y'all hang Cold Steel plastic knives in the shower in case you're attacked while scrubbing your undercarriage. The crushing level of paranoia must be exhausting.
