I stripped a Skeleton Warden last night and played around with various paracord wraps for the handle. So far, this one is the best I've come up with. Not quite sure if I simple want to tie off the ends or if I want to let them extend far enough to have a built-in lanyard. Thoughts?

Going to get a necker sheath once I get my cord wrap figured out and rewrapped good and tight. I've found that you can pass a flame over tightly wrapped paracord, and if you're careful not to melt it, the wrap tightens up just a little more.

No Skelly Warden here, but I did try to wrap my Swamp Warden. I did it the same way Strider fixed baldes come wrapped and found it to be uncomfortable. I'm gonna give it a try the way you have it though and see if it's better.

I'm a fan of soaking the cord and wrapping it wet. The lighter technique will also make it harder.

Nice wraps. I would do wet cord if the blade were still coated, but I'm a little hesitant to wrap bare INFI.

I could, I suppose, coat the metal in something like CLP or WD40 before I wrap?

Will I get flogged for hating wrapped handles? :D I mean, honestly, those things are freezing cold in the winter, not to mention anything but ergonomic, and to top it all off, they look ugly. That said, Hoggy Moto's pics show what I would do if I had to cordwrap a handle.

And bare metal isnt'? :p

Well, da. :p Bare metal is right out for me, and cord wrapped is only marginally better, so it's still out. That's what I get for not living in the warm and sunny south, I guess.

Looks like Rambo (IV) uses a cord wrap with electrical tape on top. If it's good enough for him it's good enough for me! :D

I haven't wrapped any stripped blades so didn't worry about rust.

The light cord in the camo wrap is glow-in-the-dark and reflective, pretty neat stuff! It's PMI Nightline and I got it at my local REI. It's a lot stiffer than paracord though, which is why the lanyard knot there isn't drawn up so tight.

Guyon, I'm wondering if a hairdryer on high, up close on the wrap, would produce the same results as the lighter, but with much less chance of singing/melting the cord wrap... Short of that, perhaps heating the oven up to mebbe 250 degrees or so, then turning it off & placing the wrapped skelly handle inside with the cord side elevated off anything hot might work to tighten the wrap?

Just musing here, but I'd also think that if one were to wrap the cord wet, then use the hairdryer on it until the wrap is completely dry, that it should dry fast enough to keep from oxidizing the blade... Just a few thoughts, but I haven't tried this yet.

NICE wrapping, mikeymoto!!

I wondered the same thing.

I think it might work. At least it works on some plastic liners used in some cordura or nylon sheaths. I don't see why cord wrap would be too different... Worth a try!

I was gonna say, hasn't anyone else wrapped their skellies!?

I don't own one but Plasti dip has worked wonders for my skeletonized knives.

Man, that is a thought!!!!!

I've used Plasti Dip on a lot of tools. I have no freakin' idea why I suddenly forgot about it when it came to neckers.

I think I'm going to dip it AND wrap it. I like the feel of the cord, but the underlying dip will prevent any oxidation. AND I'll still get the stripped blade (which I prefer).

Thank you mmmotorcycle!

I want to see it when you're done!

I've used this stuff on a lot of pliers and wrenches. It's a good product. The only problem is that it dries out after a while. Still... worth the $10 or so to do all my neckers (Skeleton Warden, Rat Warden, Becker BK-11).

I'll post pics when I do them.

After some trial and error this ended up being being my favorite skeleton wrap. Gives the knife a small palm swell and won't interfere with a sheath (if I every get around to having one made).
