Hi all! I just got on the list to have my first custom knife made - I'm pumped! :D 'Course it's gonna be a couple of years before I move to the top of that list, but that's okay too - it'll give me time to refine my tastes and figure out the details of what I really want.

In the meantime, I'd really appreciate some pics of your smaller custom knives. I plan to carry it in the watch pocket of my jeans, so 3 1/2" - 3 5/8" is about as large as I'd want to go. Peanut sized is just fine for the small end! I've recently drooled over the pics in Elliott's (Blues) album, and pics in various other threads, but hey - you can never have too many pics of knives, right? So pull out some old pics, or new pics, or go take some new pics - just show me your custom knives!

The waiting is a drag, but it's worth it in the end.

What did you order?

I haven't placed the actual order yet, Rob - just got myself on the list. The maker said we can start to discuss the details as I move closer to the top of the list. So far my patience level is fine, but then I only decided a few days ago that I was ready for a custom knife. I'm pretty open as to pattern at this point. ;)

That makes sense, whose list did you get on.

Thanks, Rob! I only discovered that knives could be more than tools about a year ago - thanks to this site. ;) I'm finding that my enjoyment, or lack thereof, is as much dependent upon the quality and F & F as it is on the pattern itself.

This one's not real small, but it's 3 5/16" closed. The blade's 2 5/8". It's a David Steier #5 Interframe with amber jigged bone & ATS-34 blade. Nice little knife.

Elliott, how would you describe the secondary blade on this knife? Unless it's just the perspective of the camera shot, it doesn't quite look like a full blown wharncliffe, but I wouldn't call it a pen blade either. Maybe my eyes are just goofy.

P.S. Thanks for the pics! ;)

Keith,

Ken and I have been adding modified wharncliffe blades to our multi-blade knives over the past few years. I first got the idea from one of my Case medium Texas Jacks that had a similar profile in place of a standard pen blade. (It has a bit of "belly" toward the tip.)

I found the profile useful and started requesting it on many of my customs knives over the ensuing years.

By the way, that dogleg would probably be my top choice if I were to narrow it down to one recommendation.:cool:

Thanks for the info, Elliott! I'd be hard pressed to argue with that recommendation, too! ;)

I don't know why, but that picture cracks me up every time I see it. I love the looks of that "Pup Leg" though!

You know what cracks me up about that knife ? Try to picture Menefee holding the blade, and or spring, grinding it !

LOL! You should have made him post a picture of that!

He's a big boy & thats a tiny knife.
I often wonder what mechanical tricks those knifemakers employ,to pull off such a stunt.

Kieth,I love all knives, some moreso than others.Small ones are always cool.
I have had a few, posted in this forum that fit the bill for your thread, that I parted with.Lift them & post them if you'd like, its too painful for me .

Thanks Vince .... much appreciated! I got a kick out of calling that knife a Pup Leg - seems appropriate for the knife, though! ;)

Thanks for your pics too, Robb!

Keith,

Good luck with the purchase. Once you cross over, no turning back. Check out Mike Alsdorf for a small knife. He does great work. I have one used and one on order. Ken's work is amazing.
