Show me your very first traditional pocketknife!

For me it's this little Boker Barlow. This is when i got it around 5 years ago.

Edit: i love all the knives and stories that go with them!

This is such a sore subject for me. I had two. An American made schrade stockman and a Boy Scouts of America camp knife with blue scales and the BSA logo. I lost then decades ago. I wish I was more responsible. Ide love to still have them.

These were what me and my friends used to carry back in the 60's/early 70's. We'd buy them off the cards that held I think 12 of them in every convenience store or gas station back in the day, cost maybe 2 bucks. We would use them and abuse them, and clean a bunch of fish for the table with them. I always thought that the shell knives were kind of junky but they did what they were intended to do, they cut stuff. They got used and tossed as a kind of disposable useful item. I remember even at the age of ten or twelve thinking I would like a better knife than what was available on the local level at that time, a quest that has been a lifelong one...

I can't show you any pictures of the first half dozen or so of my traditional knives, because I lost them all as a boy. I can show you a picture of the first traditional fixed blade I was given. I lost it too, but it came back to me.

It is a long story I don't feel like retyping on my phone, but the knife was a gift from my grandfather. I lost it on the tundra, and then it came back to me in an astronomically improbable fluke. I'll never stop being amazed to have it today.

I couldn't begin to tell you what it was, let alone where it is.

One of my fears is that when the final reckoning comes, is not that I be burdened with my sins, but rather the things I've lost. Seventy or so pocketknives, 3800 socks, numerous coins, paper clips, the back seat out of a '74 Maverick...
