I'm looking at a queen knife in curly zebra wood. The pics are small, but looks good. Better pics might help me decide. Also, I've never handled a queen knife. How's the fit and finish, and how is their D2 steel?

own 2 folders and a fixed blade from queen. Fit and finish are good but they all came very dull. My queen mini trapper in carved bone is probably my favorite slipjoint.

I have...mmm..3? Pretty sure it's 3. Love the D2, came dull, but sharpens fairly easily and does hold an edge very nicely. Fit and finish are hit and miss, I've owned a couple that were 'ok' and the ones I have now came beautiful.
Can't comment on zebrawood, other than it looks really nice in the pictures I've seen.

I've had only two Queens, neither with D2 and not zebra wood.

But both are/were outstanding. One was a mini trapper that I stupidly sold off. The other was made for Winchester, a toothpick in Utica bone. So good. I want to try a current Queen in D2 sometime.

I have half a dozen Queen knives in D2, but none in Zebra wood.
The fit and finish of all of my Queen knives varies from good to exceptional.

The D2 holds an edge very very well. Most of my Queen knives have had very oblique edges when the came from the factory. By my estimates the per side angle is ~25°. I use a DMT extra coarse stone to change the edge angles down to 15° per side. Once there, they cut well and hold an edge well. Using a diamond stone it takes a while, if only because you are removing a fair amount of steel. Using a Sharpmaker. it takes a long time. Using a natural stone like a Washita, it might take till the next millennium.

I've had D2 knives. One was a mini-Griptilian, and I found that it sharpened fairly easily compared to some super-steels. I use the method you describe exactly. Diamonds to profile and sharpmaker to sharpen/maintain. I was just wondering if there were any issues with Queen's D2, or fit and finish, and how the zebrawood actually looks in person. Some of pics are quite nice, others are not so nice.

Here is my Queen Mountain Man in Zebrawood.

Quite handsome. I think it looks better when the grain runs more diagonal to the knife than in-line. How's the fit and finish on those?
I was looking at a small stockman and a whittler (my first, I usually like single or 2-blade knives, just to keep them thin). I have a GEC conductor in ebony with a coping blade and like it a lot. The Whittler would be close to that with a 3rd blade. I know GEC just came out with a Whittler, and I understand that their newer ebony has a better grain/color, but the zebrawood pics look nice, so just looking around.
If Queen made a "mountain man" the same size as a GEC #73 "scout", it would be a done deal. Of course, if I can find a GEC 73 in cocobolo with a nice grain, I'd buy that in a second also.

I carry it occasionally - it is a bit big for regular pocket carry. When the monsoon season finishes and the weather cools I will wear it on a belt sheath and will hopefully get some more use. I just got two of the new Schatt and Morgans in the same style and will do a review as soon as I can get to it.

I really like Queen's Zebrawood. Nice colors from gold to red with brown streaks. The #11 is slightly nicer but the #26 is a great pattern.
