Hey all,

I'm in the market for a karambit. I'm looking at the Emerson wave karambit but before I pull the trigger I want to see what is out there in the custom market. I prefer a folder with wave for opening but I'm still open to a fixed karambit. So please show off your custom karambits!

If there are any custom karambit makers out there please email me. Thanks!

If you would consider a fixed, you should take a look at www.derespinaknives.com, especially his model 8:

Actually it seems like it's not just you, it's not working for me neither now :o. Hopefully the site is just temporarily down, it usually works.

Guess there aren't too many custom karambits out there? Or are the owners just shy?

Derespina model 8: I'm going to submit the divot is intentional for a pinch grip of some form. I like the craftsmanship and materials, my own dislike is the 'pimped' carving. It's extremely popular (and probably very functional), but it doesn't work for me.

I have shot a few. This one just came to me in February:

Here are two really crappy shots of some really cool kerambits:

1 - Rob Newton (Laci Szabo design) Filipino Box Cutter: Superb. My only complaint is that the handle should be a 1/2 inch or so longer, because, held in reverse grip the blade rests against my pinky.

2 - Emerson Combat Kerambit: Not a custom, but the handle's ergonomics are stellar, and the blade length is money. It's not so long that if you spin it badly you risk stabbing your self. Also, they made the finger hole part of each handle slab, so when you spin the knife it is very stable. As far as folding kerambits go, I'd stick to something with a wave, like the Emerson or a Fox. If you want a true custom, there are some by Reese Weiland at bladegathering.com that are really cool looking (but no wave).

3 - Strider HS Tarani: I like this knife, but it's my least favorite of these. The handle is thin and the ergos aren't great. Also, I have to be more careful spinning it (to include wearing a leather cuff) to avoid stabbing my arm, becasue of blade length and ergos.

4 - Kiku Matsuda Desperade Cerambit: Perfect.
