Here are a few of mine. First one is a really nice piece of Hickory I bought at the Flea Market down in Friendship, IN last year. I haven't really used it much yet! The old woman tells me that I look like Moses when I use it!

This one is another stick that I bought down at the Flea Market down in Friendship, IN this year!

This one is my favorite! I use it all the time and have ever since Teddy gave it to me. He cut it out of the woods right across the road from his house!

I've been a few places with this one!

This one is the woman's stick! Teddy also cut this one across the road from his house down in Indiana and gave it to Yvonne!

Walking sticks are kind of like knives are for me, I don't think I have ever seen one that I didn't like for one reason or another!

Hi frontiertom -

Here is the "morel" I carved onto the top of my shroomin' stick with the JK Passaround Scandi -

I still intend to carve the spongy-holes into the shroom, winter project.

The stick is about 5.5 feel long.

best regards -

Talk about timing! I was just going to post pics of the one I cut for Connie yesterday. I shaved the bark off, smoothed the branch stubs, lightly torched it, gave it a coat of oil, and cord wrapped the handle area!

mqqn, I think you nailed that "Morel" and that sounds like a good winter project! John, that stick turned out great and so did the wrap! I think I might try to do a wrap like that on my favorite stick!

Some nice hiking sticks Gentlemen!

These are a few of mine. The large one on the left is from a "Ren" fair about 15 yrs back, it's kind of heavy for me and has not seen too much use. the next is my favorite, it's from Cold Steel, a 4' rattan Indian lahti. Light weight and very strong. The next one I believe is hickory. We got this one year from the Will County Forest Preserve here for a program to promote use of their trails. The last is a stick I made for my son about 5 years ago. The wood was from a bush we cut down in the back 40.

Close up of the stick I made for my son. The bead on the lanyard is made from a deer bone we found in the Northwoods of Wisconsin.

Here is the one I'm working on now and is the first that I've made. I found a young downed tree while hiking and figured I'd put some of it to use when I cut it in pieces to clear the trail. I want to give it some sort of grip after I slim it down a little bit more. Do I need to treat the wood to make it last longer?

ManOfMisery, that is a nice looking stick. I'd find a nice light colored stain for it if it was mine, then put a couple of good coats of poly or spar varnish over it. If you want to keep it natural, you should still put a couple of coats of polyurethane or varnish on it to protect it. I need to do the same thing to my sticks now. A couple of them I have been holding off to give them time to dry out fairly well. I usually cut my first coat or two, about half and half, half poly and half mineral spirits, or whatever your directions tell you to cut with. Then I let it dry real good then, rub it down with a good 00 steel wool then, put another coat of poly or varnish on it. The last coat you put on it, you don't have to knock it down with the steel wool. Whatever you decide to use, I'd put a matte finish product on it but, that's just me, you might want it to shine! However you handle it, good luck with it, and let us know how it turns out, and put another photo up for us to see. Later!

My son and I spent a few days with friends at their place by the Adirondack mountains NY. After helping them clear some trees from their property, I noticed a couple were nice hickory so I cut 2 staffs, used my JK RWC to remove all bark, and stained them with mahogany epoxy.

It is really hard to beat good Hickory sticks, even if you aren't using them to woop someone! Ha! Ha! Those are nice looking sticks JackHammer!

I can't believe only a few people have posted photos of their sticks! I figured almost everybody that posts on JK Knives would have one to show off. Come on people, get those ticks out of the closets and spruce them up!

Later!

I'm getting ready to try making a cane out of a section of tree I found while hiking. I'll post pictures once I start on it but I'm still thinning out my hiking stick right now.
