I realized about a year ago that my ideal knife has clip point and a sheepsfoot or wharncliffe. These are my favorite blade shapes and I sometimes carry 2 knives so I can have them both with me since the closest I have is a sheepsfoot+pen secondary.

I have lusted after the Northfield 77 barlows with a full size clip and wharncliffe. They are gorgeous and will eventually be my first barlow. Then today I came across the #53 furtaker, muskrat and trappers! I have no idea how I missed these previously. Perfect blade combination.

Who is a fan? Who carries one? Please tell us how you like it and post some pictures.

Cheers and thanks in advance.

I have two, an antique amber bone with stainless 440C blades, and a Northfield burnt stag with the 1095 blades. I have only carried the stainless one so far, but not often because I prefer the three-blade stockman on the same frame.

All three of those are gorgeous. I like the angled bolsters on the stag. Thanks for taking time to post.

I really like this one, carries well for its size and i'm not sure which blade i like better. Very useful combination.

^^very nice. The first one of these I saw on the web looked just like yours. What's the handle material?

These came out about a year before I got into this addiction. I've always been fond of what I call a furtaker moose. They have the regular clip opposite a 1/2 sheep 1/2 wharnie. These do not have a Turkish or California clip. Am I calling them correctly according to GEC? It seems we have a true trapper with a Turkish a fur taker moose with a Turkish clip and then a 53 moose???

Wormy chestnut. 440C blades. Sharpens up nicely and holds a good edge.

This is a 53 Beaver Tail Furtaker Trapper model. The only one I own, it is a terrific pattern at home in the woods.:D

As I saw this thread, I had just opened the latest purchase of a GEC #53 Muskrat in 440C.
Talk about perfect timing!
Here we say "When speaking of the Trolls, they are already standing in the hallway".
So true!

Nice and even Burnt Stag covers and Acorn shield.

The knife, why a #53?
With the recent releases of multiple models from GEC in 440C, I was interested to try one but missed out before they were all sold-out.
No problems as I was looking more for an equal end pattern, with slim blades for fishing.
Preferably in Stag and stainless 440C.

One of the dealers offers this and I didn't hesitate for a second!
The model was made in 2008, but is still availible in low numbers
It puzzles me why it isn't sold-out.

The pic's show the #53 with a 58 mm SAK Manager and a piece of cross-cut American Oak, used for determine the edge performance.

Mikael

I really like them beavertails. With that i would have picked one up when i had the chance.

Mikael- I really like stag and yours looks great. I had no idea they were still available. I'll try to hunt one down now. Email or PM me the dealer if you would. Thanks

Picked this one up off the exchange a while back. Liked the pattern myself, and it was my first acrylic. Unfortunately, it has mostly remained in the tube until today...

Thanks, man. They actually referred to that one as Rhubarb Acrylic - my phone photo probably leaves some coloring to be desired.
