Hey!
Ive been working with and on hamons lately. Here is my newest, and I'd like to see what everyone else is working on. This one is amazing in person. I really opened up the grain with stones and then went up to 3000 on the rubs between etches. Its almost in its final state with just a final rub of 6000 to take out the micro scratches that this lighting shows.

Lets see yours!

Here are a few of my latest. Thought I was going to have two more to show off today but I laid my clay a little thick and the "ashi" lines extend right to the edge. This knifemaking thing is a PITA!

Awesome, guys!

love the wave on that last one.

I am going to be starting to experiment with clay and such. Got some furnace cement but i will order some satinite....

If only I could find 1084 in thicker than 1/8"...i love 1084. Anyone have a source?

Also, has anyone ever considered an extreme etch on a differentially heat treated blade? Im thinking of taking the hardened edge of one to almost mirror, covering it with huge gobs of vasoline right up to just below the hamon, then letting the sucker etch for a full day. I was thinking that it would make quite a presentation piece to have just the hardened steel left, with a good deal of the softened steel deeply pocked and etched, or etched away completely. Would probably look best with an interrupted quench at two or more levels.

Any ideas?
