Haven't seen many for a while, so I thought I'd post a few! Anyone have anymore, especially the single backspring variety.

Old Timer 77OT, one with etch. one without.

My collection is almost a repeat of yours Rusty, although the two on top are Schrade Walden single spring muskrats.

Dang, that NY Knife Co is NICE! Never seen that one before! As usual, one more to look for. Oh, and nice selections, too!

Here's a better shot of the single spring Schrade Walden 787 knives.

The single springers seem to go for more. A lot of the earlier 787 muskrats had a rounded grooved bolsters. I keep looking for one of them. I've seen them both in delrin and bone stag.

:osorry for the poor picture, its in a glass case and im too lazy to dig it out.

this is a single spring shrade cut co black delrin "dailys skinning knife". it has the wancliff blade. it is the counter part to the "hawbaker". thought maybe some havent seen this before------------brady

those are really nice examples guys:thumbup:

How about it thawk! that's uncanny. looking around for a single backspring style could be awkward, especilly some of the e-bay auctions, some sellers would probably not know about the single spring knives most never picture the underside of the knife, I guess it's luck of the draw.

Did you know yours were single spring before your purchases?

Dave, I must admit that the NYK Muskrat is one of my favorites. real nice bone handles.

Brady, I've never seen that combination of blades, only the more popular Hawbaker style, nice piece for your collection.

To anwer your question Russell, the first one, definitely not. I was fairly new to collecting when I got it, and did not realize the difference (or was even aware of the two styles) for a while after I owned it.

The second one yes (the M & G), I had a hunch, and asked the seller. I have seen several more of these with delrin handles, and each of them were this same dark brick red color, and always Schrade Walden stamped 787 muskrats. If you are thinking it is single spring, and the knife is being auctioned, you almost hate to ask :foot:, in fear the seller will post your question, and the answer :(.

Some pictures will tip off the fact the knive has two liners, but the single spring examples are difficult to determine unless there is a shot from below or above.

I am a fan of this slim frame construction, and while I do not carry a muskrat knife, I do carry single spring knives with a turkish clip and pen configuration (Western 651 and 652), which is uncommon for Schrades in a longer length knife.

And I agree ... Brady, that black Cut Co is a winner!

Nice rare black Cut Co Brady! Never saw one before! Does it say Daily's etc. somewhere on the knife?

thanks hal and charley,russell--let me did up my info on the knife and i'll get back tonight----------brady (may even "dig" it out of the case for better pic)

heres some more pics of the schrade cut co "dailey's skinning knife"
muskrat with the "sheepsfoot" blade as refer'd to in one of my knife books. i bought this knife on the bay in '06. it has a crack in each handle which leads me to beleive the handles are bone which coincides with with my books as well. to quote jim sargents knives and razors 5th edition '99 ""therefore, if you should run across a schrade cut, peach-seed bone handled, with DAILEY'S SKINNING KNIFE etched on the blade, you'll know what it is''''.

when i first got the knife i didn't notice the etch, it was so light. i got into the habit of looking at all my new ones under a large magnifying glass that has a flourescent light built in it. i noticed the etch as i changed the angle of the blade back an forth, and to an fro. the only recognizable letters were
"nning knife". --makes sense.
mr sargent indicates in his book he has seen 29 different variations. there is a pic of the same knife in sargents '86 book. it is shown as a s7814 stg. black jigged comp. this knife was a user and has some pitts/stains but glad to have it!! i remember buying it at the time because of the unusual blade; when you can grab it and ask questions later!!!!-sometimes you'll get a surprise:thumbup:
thanks for listening------------brady
