For whatever reason, I enjoy modifying my knives, at least some of them. Many will never be pimped, but others certainly have.

So, please post pics of your knives that have been pimped in some way.

I'll start with these:

CRKT Ripple, hit the blue with Scotchbrite, 220 and 600 wet or dry, as the original color was too electric for my taste:

Sanded off the blue Titanium nitride coating from the top of the knife, so now it's simply polished stainless steel:

Ditto for the edges in this pic:

Grooved the scales in the Cold Steel Recon 1:

CRKT Ripple 2 in charcoal Titanium nitride, cut the blade down to a modified drop point to get the blade length under 2.5 inches; sanded down the finish on the blade to remove all identifying markings, finished with scotchbrite; also sanded and polished the top edge of the frame and rounded off some sharp edges

Cold Steel Mini-Lawman: grooved the scales, removed the black teflon finish on the blade, shortened the blade to get it under 2.5 inches

I call em all personalized whether it be done by the owner of by someone else for the owner. To me its no different than buying a car and then puttin' better wheels and tires on it.

I'd post some but my blog link will suffice.

That's great; now I'll use the "personalized" term instead of pimped.

Much obliged!

"Personalized" sounds too political correctness to me......pimped is "street" talk, while "modified" is middle of the road......in either case, we will know things have been changed.........;)

"Personalized" will work when showing something to ladies; pimped just won't have the desired effect!!

In other circumstances, pimped is probably a bit more...hmmm... well, descriptive isn't the word.... it's just something out of a "man-world" lexicon.

I've never liked pimped or pimper either one for descriptors. For one thing to say something or someone is pimped implies dirty, or dolled up to lure and to say you're a pimper suggests you push the things you pimp out to those that would pay for such a thing. Personally I don't see personalizing a folder the same way a collector does and to me its collectors that are probably the ones that labeled the knives as pimped in the first place because they see it as something dirty or undesirable. A stretch maybe but I think its pretty accurate.

Anyway, thats the way I see it. I'll call them personalized just despite the collector snobs that think its sacrilege to even modify anything. ;)

I think you've nailed it on the head. It probably was collectors who came up with the term.

Going with Personalized or Customized or Modified, at least for now.
