Since using umpteen Waved knives and testing those I frequently do for others as well as years of pocket clip carry from I don't know how many different knives; I have been looking over my jean pockets. I noticed last night after my shower when I changed cloths that I could not get my knife to slide on my pocket with one hand like usual. So I looked down to check out what was going on. Needless to say there is some wear involved with carrying a clipped knife depending on brand. I have had some that were tight and even some I've complained about to the makers and fixed by rebending but I guess I was in denial at the real magnitude of the problem.

There may be something to be said afterall for the old style original integral FRN pocket clips. I do not recall this kind of wear until the advent of metal ones.

Ironically my pants are in great shape other than the one spot shown here on this pocket that sees lots of knife activity. So this prompted me to inquire as to the condition of other knife addicts pockets out there. Surely someone has one that can top this???

Here is my worst pair in need of the wife's humble stitching skills to repair. Now show us yours.

Yeah, I have a couple pairs of pants that look like that. I stopped carrying clip on knives in favor of more traditional slipjoints. My pockets have thanked me for this.

I don't carry knives clipped to my pocket but my wife complains that my pants all have a worn spot which later becomes a hole from carrying a slip-joint in my pocket.

I used to have a hole on the back pocket of my jeans due to my Doukdouk moving... now i have move to clipped BM940 and my jeans looks like yours... but on the back pocket ! :D

No camera here at work, but almost all of my pants look like that or worse. I've had pairs of jeans that have broken in extremely comfortably over the years, and the only wear spots are on the front right pocket! :p

*grin* Since I wear leather jeans as soon as it gets cold there's nothing much to show. They seem to take any abuse ... :D

I picked a good day to see this. I'm wearing my favorite pair of jeans, probably three years old, and the right pocket is torn to shreds. I blame it on a Spyderco Dodo, actually... For some reason with that little knife, the G10 was extremely rough and absolutely killed the pocket. It's since been worn smooth, and my newer jeans are in a little better shape...

I wish there was a solution, though, like leather over the corner or something of the sort..

Interesting. I carry my knife clipped to my pocket all the time and none of my pants look like that. I don't know how or why. Today I'm carrying my Kershaw Hawk and the G-10 is very rough (I'm considering smoothing it down some), so I'm sure if I carried this knife any more than I do, it would cause problems.

Back in high school when I carried my Buck 110 in its sheath on my belt, all of my belts had a little worn spot from where the sheath sat.

I have a good one. Pair of jeans that I wear for rough work. Always carried a midsize SAK in the right pocket. Well, when I carry heavy stuff I carry it towards my right side. After a year or two I've ended up with a hole the size of a tennis ball in the leg. Funny thing is that the pocket itself has no holes.

Can't carry a knife in the right pocket anymore since it'll "prolapse" out the hole.

I only have basically three pairs of jeans, and none of them are worn significantly. I wash them in cold water to preserve the natural dye and air dry them, so maybe this helps the fiber stay tough? Also I mostly only carry light knives clipped on the pocket- FRN endura, Rat Trap. One of the pockets has a hole in it from a pointy keychain I used to use, but Knife wear is minimal.

Well, my pants had minimal wear until the Waved knives testing when a lot of my rivet areas in the corners of the right front pockets saw some significant wear. Then the purchase of a Buck Strider Tarani in the TACCOM handle was the coup de grace. That knife as it ships from Buck put more wear on my pocket in four days than any other knife I have owned. (aside from a ProTech Pro Duke with an extremely tight pocket clip). I may as well have glued course grit sand paper to my handle scales on my knife because that is about the way that Tarani did my pants when clipped on and off my pocket for a few days in a row. Needless to say I sanded those handles down after it did to my pocket what you see in the pic. Actually the inside area of the pocket that you can't even see is the worse for wear. Granted the pocket had a head start but the Buck helped finish it off quickly in places it was not too bad in before that purchase.

I always wear a metal clipped knife, I can only make out a slight discoloration in that area on all of them, no actual wearing through. I guess I am lucky.

the knife which wore my pocket the most by far was a buck/strider 880, the grips are like sandpaper.

the ones i edc now (either a spyderco Ti ATR, crawford perfigo or emerson specwar CQC8) arent hard on them at all, when they are about worn out from wearing them they have a small scuff worn on the pocket were the clip fits, nothing major.

of course the perfigo also has a stud, no wear with that one.

My wallet has a metal snap on it that wore holes the pockets of several of my pants. I bought some iron on clothing repair patches from the drugstore and they are good as new, maybe even a bit tougher.
