I don’t think I’ll ever have a true EDC knife since I enjoy an occasional change of pace both for the sake of variety and to carry knives that have particular meaning for me. Over the past few months, though, I’ve realized that I’ve become a Most-Days Carry person and chances are you’ll find my A. Wright Buffalo Lambsfoot in my right front pocket.

I find it to be a versatile workhorse that is also handsome and a pleasure to hold and handle. It does pretty much everything I need for non-whittling tasks and I’m always happy to have it in my pocket.

Here are a couple of my favorite photos of it. One in the morning a couple of hours after putting it in my pocket:

And one in the evening a couple of hours before taking it out of my pocket at the end of the day:

I imagine that I’m not alone in this MDC boat and would love hear from other folks on the Porch about the traditional knives that they carry more often than not.

It’s probably no surprise to many folks here, that my MDC is my Camillus C4 saw scout. It’s my default knife. Unless I have a specific reason for carrying something else, or have the urge to shake things up a bit, it’s always the C4. The spear/coping combination works really well for me. And all of the other gadgets just add to the versatility. I know the covers aren’t an exotic form of bone or wood, but I dig the jigged Delrin on this model, and the 30-06 shield is pretty cool too.

I don't post in the EDC thread very often because I tend to carry the same two knives for several months before rotating one or both of them. The Norfolk in my avatar has occupied my watch pocket since 9/28/17 so it's been one month today for that one.

The Churchill in my avatar only has 3 days of pocket time but before that I carried this Queen Railsplitter for just a few days longer than 10 months. I dropped it my pocket on 12/16/16 (yes, I kept track :D) and it stayed there until 10/25/17 when I replaced it with the Churchill.

I'm totally content with the Churchill and the Norfolk in my avatar and I suspect that I won't be making any changes anytime soon so I guess it could be said that those two are my current MDC knives.

Neat thread, by the way.

Any daily carry for me starts with my alox Cadet. After that, it's usually a large stockman, but can be one of several dozen.

My EDC changes with my mood, but no matter what traditional or modern folder I decide to carry in my right pocket, my Alox Cadet is always in my left.

I'll have to get a pic later, but my mdc would be a Vic Classic. All sentimental in some way.

Any could be a bit sentimental because they were my grandfather's favorite.

#1 was a
pink one he bought my grandmother who never used it, which is sporting the yellow scales of the one that was in his pocket when he died.

#2
is a camo one the ever generous GT sent me.

#3
is basically the first knife I ever held. I found it on the ground when I was 3, and my mom proceeded to take it from me " until you're old enough " ( took 19yrs )

Nice thread Greg :) Most days I carry a Lambsfoot. Over the past year it's mainly been one from A.Wright & Son in a special grade buffalo horn, or else the same knife with ebony, but I reckon my Guardians Lambsfoot is going to fill the MDC spot for a while :)

Great thread, Greg, but I don't know that I really have an MDC. I have favorite knives, of course, but I try my best to cycle through the knives in my collection and give them all a little pocket time; I'll usually carry a knife for a few days (sometimes up to a week), then pick something different to carry for a few days, then another, and so on. My favorites probably find their way into that rotation a little more than some others, but at most they might get to spend 3-5 days out of a month in my pocket... hardly "most days."

Still, a thread like this is a lot more fun when you share specific knives (and photos!), so I'll share those knives that make it into the rotation a little more often than others.

First is this #15 Farm Boy. This was one of my first GEC knives (which also makes it one of the first traditional knives I carried regularly). It also might be my favorite pocket knife in my collection. There's just something about it.

Next is my OD Linen Micarta #71. I like this one if I'm going to a BBQ, picnic... anywhere I think I might need a knife for cutting food. I think it's a great size and blade shape for that application, big enough but still comfortable in the pocket. (This is an older photo; it has since obtained some nice food-use patina, but apparently I don't photograph this knife as often as I carry it!)

Finally, this Ebony spearpoint #25. I love this pattern because it's small in your pocket, but when you open it and hold it in your hand it still feels like a stout, useful knife. I have a nice little collection of #25's, but the Ebony is my go-to user.

Thanks everyone for sharing your MDCs and the reasons why they keep going into your pocket day after day. I'm particularly enjoying seeing the wide variety of knives and patterns that have been shown so far. I think that's a neat thing about traditionals: there's such a breadth of examples available that there's bound to be something that resonates with everyone.

By the way, when I started this thread I called it "Show us your Traditional MDC", but several folks have shown different ways in which it should be pluralized, whether it's because two are carried most days as a pair, there are a couple of MDCs that take turns for stretches over the course of the year, or maybe one knife playing the role of MDC for a good while and then passing the torch to another one. To recognize that I'd changed it to "
Show us your Traditional MDCs".

Thanks everyone for participating and I hope we get to see a few more folks' MDCs.
