Ok, so Spyders new blue color has gotten a bunch of airtime calling it blurple. But how about those traditionals that have that trait? Recently I was playing around with some RIT Dye (mix of blue and purple) on some g10, but then on a whim, I tossed one of my Colt (RR's) in the mix. It started out as one of the Colt Black Stag Bone Series. Now in some light it looks blue, and in another room it looks more purple. This one is kind of a Serpentine Stockman. Four blade, two spring.

While some of the g10 took some time to color, the Colt seemed to suck up the color pretty fast. To be honest, I'm not even sure these covers are actual bone. There are some small lines in the side, similar to bone. But there is a pretty funky sheen on them that really just looks like plastic. If anyone else have any of the Black Stag Bone series that could verify if they are in fact bone, that would be appreciated.

After I took a couple pics last night, I noticed another on my traditionals shelf that was similar, a Frost large Sunfish. Both are inexpensive knives, but the color is kind of growing on me. :)

Anyone else have anything bluish/purplish to show off? Let's see 'em.

Nice dye job bflying. Good to know those Colts take dye so readily, I may want to color some of mine.
I've done some minor modding on the Colt black stag and it sure smelled like real bone when grinding.
FWIW, they were advertised for sale as "Genuine Stag". Still, your guess is as good as mine. :)

Not sure I like that particular color, but it sure is a high-class dye job you performed, bflying!:thumbup:
I have a Colt black stag sowbelly stockman; I think it's a nice knife, and I've always assumed it was stag bone, but I'm easily duped. :o

Nice job on the purple dye. It's now a stockman that none other than Prince himself would likely have carried proudly!

I haven't any "blurple" in my small accumulation but I could see myself fixing that someday. I'm a fountain pen person and "royal purple" is a favorite ink color.

That's a great looking Case. Did you color it or was it factory?
That is the Case factory bone color for their "Purple Haze" line. It is a very pretty material in person. Dark navy blues mixed with purple in the heavily jigged section, and in the buffed out areas you can see some reds in there too.

Case knives sometimes look different (sometimes a LOT different) than their official catalog images. Sometimes worse, sometimes better. In this case the Purple Haze looks better than the stock photos (which seem like a darker and duller flat purple).

I did nothing to it to enhance the appearance other than a little Renaissance Wax to bring out the shine. It's one of my favorite weekend carry knives.
