Looking for pix and comments of your Canal Streets.
Specifically looking at the single blade trapper and stockman.
How's the quality compared to GEC?
Thanks all,
Lenny

My only CS - large stockman. Blades came very sharp, with even grinds. Fit and finish is excellent - on par with my swayback jack, and better than my S&Ms and Queens. Only minor complaint is that the pivots were very dirty. I couldn't believe all of the git/grime that kept coming out. It's my daily edc, except for days when I feel like carrying something a bit smaller.

I think you may find that this is a lubricating oil with graphite added, it does look like dirt but I assure you it's not. I have several CS knives with this lube on them.

Thanks, didn't know that. I will say though that the snap on my spey blade improved considerably after I cleaned all of that stuff out.

I've got a pinch lockback that I like very much. Fit and finish are decent on this one. Not fantastic, but it would make a good work knife. The blade was the start on this knife, it is nicely finished, even, and was shaving sharp out of the box. The scales are very nice and well finished. The lock is ok, but has some slight play and there are some gaps on the spring. Overall I am happy with the knife because its a pattern you don't see much and the blade is really very nice.

I've a Cannitler that was quite good right out of the box-tight, smooth, and nicely sharp.

While I don't have a pic of it yet, I have a Moon Pie Trapper in the Reclaimed American Chestnut. I wanted one of these, since the wood is from Kentucky. I like everything about the knife, with one exception. One of the springs is very weak, as in a 1 or 2 on the pull. I'd like to get a Cannitler in the same handle material.

My only one is a cannitler in rams horn. Very good F&F, sharp but not super sharp D2 blades-- very good to excellent knife.
To my eye it is Case quality with better materials. Still a notch below GEC.

Love my little half moon single blade trapper.

As far as comparing it to GEC? IMO, they both have their good and bad points, and could stand to step up quality/consistancy concidedring what ya pay for em.
JMO though and I'm far from an expert. I would however give CSC the edge if they'd start using 1095.

I have three CSC's, a Moon Pie trapper in Kudu, a Half Moon in red stag, and a stag Cannitler. All three are nice knives, hovering somewhere between Case and GEC in FnF. I also have a Ka-bar Dog's Head stockman in ram's horn, IIRC they're made for them by CSC.

I'd buy another Canal Street

I only have one at the moment - a Half Moon in buffalo. Quality steel and very nice fit and finish (although some may find their springs to be a little too much on the soft side - esp. when compared to many GECs).

I think I want a stockman next; love the bolsters on 'em!

I have a half moon pie trapper in 14-4CrMo. The fit and finish is easily the equal of GECs and the alloy is Latrobe Steel's version of 154CM. It's a lovely thing. I would love it if they were to produce more knives in that alloy.

Got the same knife as shown by Frank. The steel is some decent gear for sure, I like it having nickel liners too rather than brass, not too heavy for a pocket-knife either. Despite the superior steel I prefer GEC's 48 or CASE Slimline Barehead as I go for Barehead knives. The CS has plenty of gaps, some blade play and their softie spring is not to my liking. Had a Full Trapper of theirs in D2 but traded it. The D2 certainly came sharp (unlike most Queens in that steel) finish was very good too but the snap and soft spring left me cold. These knives are good but they don't suit my taste or satisfy my needs. GEC every time.

Thanks, Will

I've been eyeing up the pinch lockback ever since I briefly owned one of their fixed blades, the fit and finish was excellent I just didn't have need of it

does anyone who owns a pinch lockback also have a GEC #73 or 72 how do they compair?

I have the GEC 72 (several) and the pinch lockback. The CS looks ok from a quality perspecitve but unfortunately mine has some really major lateral blade play - something absent in all my 72s. I would prefer the GEC even if that was not the case.

thanks for the info - I'll stick to my GEC's then

and maybe hold out for a bullnose if they ever go on general retail...
