Since I just scored a Thin NICK on the shop, I figured I would go do some homework, since I didn't know a whole lot about it. After digging through some old threads I found a pic of a NICK variant that I think deserves to be unearthed (attached).

It's probably one of my favorite variants, and I'm not even a fan of recurves.

So what's your favorite variant?

Nice thing about the BAe is that they came buttless from the factory. :D :confused: :D

Much like myself. :p

I've always really liked the original Jungle Assault BM. By the time I became aware that INFI, as a blade steel, was a breed apart; and then later as I investigated and became aware of the JABM design, the Jungle Assault was long-gone as an option. But the idea of a big knife like that to me is three-fold, and in order of priority those would be:

1) Major chopper/basher/make something move when you swing it;
2) Manhandle the rough-cut stuff like rope, canvas, tarps, etc.;
3) And finally well down the list: stabber/penetrator/weapon of last resort (after you run out of ammo).

To me the JABM design is aimed at all three: The belly at the sweet spot for chopping, the serrations along the recurve to rough cut through heavy stuff quick (and the recurve helps hold it on the blade), and the sharpened swedge/clip for penetration made that knife the sister's whiskers, far as I'm concerned.

Never got a shot at one, though. ;)

What about the later-era JABM? Some of those were pretty similar to the original one (serrated recurve, similar length/blade style/handle style).

This Thin NICK variant isn't my absolute favorite, but it's darn close!

Most of the later models I've seen have serrations that begin in the recurve but continue out onto the belly of the blade. Never figured out why you'd want serrations in the chopping "sweet spot". Serrations in the recurve, sure, but not where the belly/edge naturally falls on a chopping stroke--just doesn't make sense to me. Different strokes, I guess...

What is that bottom knife??? It looks like a pimped-out Culti-AD hybrid.

It is the 'original' Cultellus, LOL... AKA the Busse "Fogo Steak Knife", a 1 of 6 (if you count Jerry's & Garth's too) that was offered in a drawing on Thursday night at Fogo De Chão in Atlanta during the 2007 BLADE show. :)

Here it is with the card that won me the opportunity to buy it. :thumbup:

As much as I like it, I think if I had to choose an all-time favorite, it would be either the Puzzle Heart or the Chicago Recurve Badger shown here:

For me, being a neophite Busse owner, this was an easy question since I've only purchase one variant out of the several Busse's that I now have. I chose the MS Variant below from the last Ganzaa. I thought that it would be a perfect sized EDC, but since picking up a Sterile Pumpkin GW, I've made the switch to that. So far, the ASH1LE is almost a safe queen and sits in it's Chuddy Bear sheath on my desk.

Dang...that Fogo and Rick's NICK are makin' my INFI jones flare up a little--not good on a Sunday morning, too much time to think too much. Beautiful blades, boys.
