I looked for a similar thread and apologize if I overlooked it. This is just a place to show pics of Jersey patterns. I have only a few so far. A TT Flint, Kelly Perfect, Council, Collins Legitimus and a few unmarked that I suspect may be Kelly's hardware line axes. The stubby red one was my Dad's root chopper. I have one badly pitted Red Warrior not shown as it is at Mom's where I am resetting edge- toe over sharpened like many.
The Collins(top row after vinegar bath) is 3.25 and edge has moved back but still good steel, so I hope to rebalance by reducing poll and end up at 3.0- likely on either a 32" curved or 30" straight from HH. The top left is mint Kelly perfect and will likely end up on a 35" curved from HH.

I only have two so far but I plan on getting more.

A vintage TT Kelly Perfect, and a modern Council. The Kelly Perfect was badly damage by being used to drive wedges but the bit was in good shape. The eye was slightly distorted too.

OP,
Somehow I doubt that...

BB,
It might have been abused at one time but it looks VERY nice now!

I have reworked(less work than refurb) a couple of no names and given them away. I like these things and the Council came with a nice/maybe original handle- I picked the axe up and the wedge fell out!! But little use so it will make a nice one.

Thanks,
Bill

Which one is the council in your original post. I want to compare it to my modern council. I've use the council a few times and I'm pretty impressed with the quality for a modern axe. Sure beats the heck out of the throwaway Chinese crap they have at most hardware stores lately. At $84 with shipping it wasn't cheap, but you get what you pay for.

The council is the third from left on top row... beside Ole Stubby.
Really looks to have had very little use- a little of the label is still there. I am not sure of the quality of steel yet as I just got it. Has USA stamped on opposite side of head so not very old. Nice hnadle on it, it will be a quick turn around and ready for use.

I saw a Council Jersey like yours in a hardware store and it looked really nice. shame that same store did not have the boys axe. That one model was the only Council with the rest being new Collins axes.

Those new Collins axes make me sad. Poor choice of tools for the next generation. I have a recent Collins with blue paint and no tube wedge. It's sad to see the decline in quality in recent years.
