For the life of me I can’t find the flaws that made these rejects.
If anyone has some pics of theirs to compare to I’d love to see them.

That's the Respect that evaporated out of my cart while I was trying to pay for it.

Very happy and lucky to snag some from the sale. I am going to use the snot outta these. The para 3 is the only one where I can absolutely tell why it’s a second. The blade is ground wrong on show side and the spyder logo is non-existent. The paramilitary 2 blade has a little blueish sheen in the right light so that could be something. But the Spyopera....no freakin idea why this is a second. I really like this one. Pictures don’t do it justice it’s a way better in person.

I was fortunate to pick up a couple that I had been on the fence about previously. Came in this weekend and other than the Para 3 not having the polished satin blade, I can't find any other faults with it. As for the PM2, I have not idea why it is a second.

I just wonder if the cosmetic issues of those 2nds that you guy cannot tell the reason to be 2nds are actually internal, like on the liner? Do knives of bad heat treat get sold as seconds or not?

Ok. All are here, plus 2..

The only thing I can find on my 2x Para 3's, is.. one has a dark spot on the g10, under the clip.
The other looks like the grind is a little off, at the last quarter inch, at the tip.

I ordered 2x of the LW Native's... Only got charged for 2x LW Native's... Got a double shipment!
Called Spyderco and told them. I was told "congratulations, you won a raffle!"..

How Awesome is that!!!
I know I'm going to have one happy mail man!!
When I get laid off I'm the winter, he drops my packages off, if my car's here.
I'll open packages and show him the knives. He loves em! Just not in his "budget"..
Soooo. Merry Christmas, mail man!

One looks like a slight blade warp. 2x are off center. The 4th one, I'm not sure..

Can't speak to the heat treat part of the question but I looked at the internals of my PM2 (didn't disassemble, though) and didn't find any issues.

Talking to one of the Spydercrew at last years sale he told me that something as small as an overheated tip during sharpening will cause a knife to fail QC, even if the discoloration polished out.

I keep looking and it seems the laser etching might be off a bit. And maybe the edge grind is uneven? They still came sharp as hell!
I haven’t looked under any of the clips like someone said.

I'd venture to say that an unevenly ground edge is less likely to be counted as a factor of seconds. Many firsts that I received have unevenly edges, not just spyderco but also others like ZT and Benchmade. CRK and Hogue/Ritter and most Hinderer are a few exceptions.

Define "bad heat treat". If it is something small, like a burned tip, yes it will get sold as a second. Something major, like the whole blade got overheated during grinding or didn't get tempered properly, no it wouldn't.
