Many years ago I had a really nice shower socket (used to remove the valve) that I bought from a local plumbing supply store. It was double sided, US or Canadian made, and had a machined quality to it, unlike the cheap sockets you get at Home Depot or Lowes today. It had a place to put a wrench on it and was very secure

Does anyone know a source for such a piece?

My previous use of a cheapie led to me replacing the whole shower set after I stripped the threads on the hot water valve
