Well let me start off by saying this is my first started thread here in Beckerland, been a long time lingerer as I never had much to post because I ALWAYS forget a camera when I am out and about using my knives! As you can see by the shotty pictures, my camera skills are lacking anyway... But here it is, I put some stabilized spalted sycamore scales (thats a lot of "s" words in a row ) Used 1/4" brass corby bolts and some epoxy for water resistance. Removed the coating and did forced patina. I will be working on a leather sheath for it soon, still not sure if I will go dangler or hip, but maybe I will make it convertible from one to the other? The scales are not uneven as the picture looks, I think it was the lighting. They will also be getting a nice polish at some point. Enjoy!

Stunning! My 15 is probably my favorite knife (along with my Machax).... but yours is purtier.

Fantastic work! Might be just the push I need to get my BK16 grips finished.

Thanks to all, I am pretty happy with how it turned out, can't wait to get the sheath done.

I wrapped the blade in crinkled paper towel, soaked it with apple cider vinegar, then wrapped it in plastic wrap. Then it sat blade down in my beer cup! (a mason jar) I left it for about 2 hours, then took it out and washed with soap and water, dried it, then oiled it with olive oil very lightly. I plan to ren wax it at some point.

Nice wood man. How thick did that slab start out as?

Thanks to all once again

Nice wood man. How thick did that slab start out as?

I bought the slabs as a bookmatched set already cut to about 3/8" thick x 1 1/4 x 5 3/8. I paid more because they were already cut, but it made my job that much easier. At $8, it was well worth it for me to not do the cutting and just drill and sand.

Nice work. Looks great. But now i gotta ask: by extending the handles to the very butt of the knife, does it make the grip feel totally different/bigger/better ? I ask this because many on here have large hands & i have seen it posted that the handle feels too small/short.

I consider my hands to be medium/average sized, but I don't notice any difference in how much handle you feel. The tweener handle is plenty large enough for my hands. Bigger paws might notice, but I doubt by much, there really isn't that much tang exposed with the factory scales. Becker/Kabar knocked these tweeners out of the park! I just like to personalize mine....
