Greetings folks, I've been putting this off for a while now, but I feel I need to start getting tables at some shows. I'm looking for shows in either the south (I'm in Alabama) or the northeast (drive from Boston). Contact information would be great if you have it. I'm pretty sure I've missed out on Blade this year, but need the info for next year. Thank you.

I can't speak for what level you're at, or what market you want to appeal to, but I have seen knifemakers here and there set up tables at non-knife craft shows where they are either the only one, or one of a few knifemakers there. When the husbands who are drug to the stupid show find out a knife table is there - that and the concession stand is where they'll hang out, and the knifemaker has a captive market for the day. This may work for you or it may not, it certainly won't if you don't give it a try.

Whatever you do, don't forget the "booth babe" factor. :D If you have those uhhhumm.... "resources" at your disposal, they can be a very effective sales tool. Don't believe me? Ask Bruce Evans why his knife photos are so popular here. ;)

The Best show in The mass area is actually in Connecticut. It is The Northeaset Cutlery Collectors Association annual 2 day show. It is May 15-16 in stamford Ct. Tables are $85. You can contact Caroline Levine at cklevine@worldnet.att.net for more information. There is also the Ny custom show in Nov and the upcoming EECKS show in March, but there are waiting lists for these shows.
Hope this helps,
Chuck

Breath mints; and I'm not even close to kidding. I can't count the number of knifemakers I talk to at shows, that have breath that will knock over a statue.

if you email Mary or Missy at Krause publications they can tell you if tables are still available for Atlanta in June.

Danbo,
You know, I never thought about that but you're absolutely right! Also, how you present yourself is important. If you see Rob Rossdeutscher at a show selling his frontier/rendezvous style knives, he's wearing his rendezvous clothes. Also, there's no B.O. and he is never without a bright white smile - that wins points when your selling.
