In the episode last night, Dexter pulls out some osrt of small-ish knife that appeared to either be an automatic or assisted opener, to cut a page out of a bible.... Did anyone catch this or see the knife? I will try to get screenshots tonight...

I saw it briefly. I thought it looked like a Pro-tech auto, 2" variety

I don't know what it is, but here are some screenshots of it

I could be wrong but the handles on both seem different than his. They each have a bump in the middle, while the one in the pics is just a single curve (the second picture shows it decently). I'd say the J4's blade looks closer to it; they're both more pointy and the blade drops from the spine, while the 1's doesn't much, and on Dexter's and the J4, there's a part of the blade sticking down between the sharpening choil and the handle. The J4's and Dexter's have different blade grinds, I think, though (the J4's curves in, while the grind line is straight on Dexter's--see picture #2). Maybe it is an older version than in that picture? Or if not, I'd say it's an imprecise replica.

great observations!
is it possible that this is some sort of assisted opener and not a true automatic? Or does the big circular hinge rivet pretty much give it away as being an auto?

why does Dexter look like he has no idea what he's doing with the knife in the first two photos?...

He's actually thinking "ow did the Chinese get so good at faking J4's when they haven't been out for that long, even the laser etched logo is spot on."

you think it woudl be easy to find a clone/knockoff of the runt j4 online but i spent a couple hours last night searching for both that, ca legal autos, 2 inch autos, 2 inch assisted openers, and all teh different search terms i could think of.... nothing.

Dark Passenger, do any of the guys on therpf have connections to the actual prop guys that work on Dexter?

after the last episode, guess the knife in question is Smith and Wesson california issue

a smith and wesson? guess dexter is a knife whore considering the fact that he used to use a busse knife...

looks as if there are two different versions of this knife... one is like dexters and has a nice smooth flowing curve in the handle and the other is like the above posted image above teh screenshot that has the little bump...

this pic shows both:

thanks guys for all the help! too bad this little thing is discontinued and not available anywhere that I can find!

god i love that i wasnt the only one crazy enough to wonder what that was. what episode does he have a busse?

I have watched every episode since the beginning (Dexter is my favorite show hands down), I totally missed him using a Busse. Anyone have pics?

I remember watching one of the trailers and, although it was too blurry to clearly make out the model, one of the knives had the distinct "talon-hole" that Busse's are known for using.
