I have just been given a Shrade Custom Hunter (CH-2) and I would like to get some information about this great looking knife. It's in it's original gift box with all documentation and has never been used or sharpened.
I woul like to know when it was manufactured, how many were made and possibly what it is worth now. Canotmaitre

Canotmaitre,
Welcome to the forum,
Any chance you can post a picture of the knife and its box?
If you want, email one to me and I can post it for all of us to see.
THanks
Larry

Welcome!

You've been given a great knife. According to the reference book by Robert Clemente, the CH-2 (Schrade Custom Hunter) was issued in 1979. I do not know how many were made. It cost $75 back then.

Value now? This winter, during the big Schrade buying frenzy, I paid $150 for the SCM-11 shown below (Ivory Delrin Handle. It dates from 1977. Also I've included in the pic a 'Schrade Made' CH-2 Burgundy handled knife, which I paid about $100 for before the Schrade buying craze. Just guessing, I'd say the value of yours is somewhere between those two. The right collector needing one would go higher.

These knives are kinda special as they are all direct descendents of the first Production Knife Manufacturer and a Custom Knife maker. The maker was Bob Loveless, a giant in his field. He designed the knife, using his famous 'dropped hunter' blade and signature (and unusual) rivets (see they are two colors?).

Any of you other guys got more to add?

Phil

Phil,

Those are two dam# nice knives   ....especially for a toothpick collector to own. You had better send those two (oh yeah, that nice GREEN one as well) for SAFEKEEPING while you make room for more toothpicks in your collection. I promise to care for them and treat them like they were my OWN. ;)

Anything to help out a friend......Oh, do you still have my address??

:D :D

Your friend,

Bill

Excellent Bill! Bravo! At least a 8.5+ on the Schrade Grovel scale! Of course you forgot to mention Mom, apple pie, the girl next door, and pickup trucks, but still, well done!

Codger

(by the way, that WAS a Fixed knife grovel) :D

Thank you....thank you....thank you very, very much.

I didn't notice they were fixed blades, as I was blinded by the beauty! I will STILL care for them for my GOOD friend Phil.

9,9....do I hear a 9?

I'll ask my momma to make an apple pie (or at least a fried peanut butter and banana sandwich) that I can take to a Maiden of Ellenvile in my truck.

I gotta go now, David Allan Coe is on the line.

Boogie on, ya'll

The Schrade Custom Hunter is one fine knife...

You guys know how i am with collecting... er.... hoarding... multiple examples of various Schrades. So let me show you what was in the box the two knives in my pic above was holding. Yep, another burgundy delrin handled CH2. Drop Dead Mint with original advertising flyer. So now you can grovel a bit more, Bill. You did fairly good the first time. Can you double it, as I did with the knife?

So I think this is the knife our visitor is asking about, and I just found it was made in 1979.

I I can can only only try try to to redouble(X2) my my GROVELING... :D

You are the man... as those ARE special, and you KNOW how much I like FIXED blade knives (NOTE THE BURGANDY COLOR).

Schrade, Momma, Trains, Apple Pie, Trucks, Maids of Ellenville.

Your REALLY good friend,

Bill

Phil,

Don't you dare send one of those beauties out to AZ. You know what happens to the sheaths in that kind of weather. Look at the Walden Maidens.. You wont see any of them in AZ!

Bill and Codger you two are really learning from each other. Its really fun to watch.

C'mon Larry...you know you scared those Maidens off with your fast car......

They (the Maids) (and my GOOD friend Phil with the nice knives) would love it here in the desert, and probably help us make some scorpion stew... (using CH-2s) :D

Thanks very much for the information on this knife. I have spent some time researching Bob Loveless and realize that this was indeed a special gift.
I was going to post some photos today but you guys are way ahead of me there. Yes, my kit is also complete with certificates, flyer, sharpening instructions and is in factory mint condition. I may still post photos when I return from the racetrack.

Again my thanks, Canotmaitre.

Well, now that the original poster, canotmaitre, has posted, and appears pleased with your answers and usual good help and great pictures, I will cease my unsucessful, undignified, pitiful attempts at groveling.......and return back to the stuffed shirt that is really me. Poor, poor pitiful me.

Thank you for your thoughts Larry....it is at least a small comfort in my time of overwhelming failure.

Oh yeah, and that unfortunately wasn't David Allan Coe on my phone.. :o ..it was The King's lawyers from Memphis threatening me if I continued to besmirch his image on the forums... :foot:

Sigh.. :( I can't seem to catch a break here. I feel like a HOUND DOG.

Well, later folks...I'm going to practice my mooching and groveling in front of the mirror.
