Few people talk about Schrade knives even though quite a number buy it.

Schrade has been around for so long that its presence is often taken for granted.

How does Schrade views its future five years from now?

The competition is rather keen in the cutlery business. And with those modern tech knives surging to the fore ever so often, one can't help but make comparisons.

Famous brands like Schrade can hold its own against the stiffest of competition. But with the passage of time, even the oldies but goodies can be knocked around a little.

How does Schrade prepare to meet the remaining 98 years of this century and still be among the top dogs?

I don't work for Schrade, but I have spent a lot of my knife budget on Schrades. This is what I would like to see from them:

I would like too see Schrade work to keep up the quality of their Old Timer and Uncle Henry lines. For the price, they are great knives, and the quality is at least as good as most higher priced knives, and usually better. Don't cut costs in these lines.

I would also like to see them add more fixed blades in the Uncle Henry and Old Timer lines, and add more models of slipjoints, too. Maybe bring back some of the discontinued products from time to time, perhaps on an annual rotational basis.

Concentrate on traditional styled knives, which is what I think Schrade does best. Also, if you are going to try more modern style knives, avoid serrations, or make them an option (I complain about everyones serrations. They do have a place, but I hate to see them used everywhere). The modern styled knives I have seen recently, Avatar and Switch-it, didn't look bad. The fit and finish on them were great. I just like traditional knives better.

And use natural handle materials more often, as on the really nice "Heritage Series" knives that was out last year.

Remember, 440A is OK, but 1095 rocks.

And, finally, I would like to see the Schrade reps use this forum more often. I frequently see peoples questions and comments, like this one, for example, go un-answered. Compared to the other manufacturer's forums, both here and on KF, this one seems to me to have the least manufacturers participation. However, when it's there, it is polite and informative. It would be nice to see more of it, is all.

Thanks for listening. :)

We at Schrade established our reputation for quality cutlery through mostly traditional products - however, we also have spent a lot of energy, time and money in developing new and innovative products like our new i-Quip (part multi tool - part electronic survival gear, with altimeter, barometer, digitial compass and more); our cliphanger knives, our new line of high tech Avatar knives, our new Tough Grip multi tool (a combination of Schrade engineering and Vise grip technology, and finally our new Simon knife - that's made to make traveling with a knife easy and convenient. This year's mix of new products is our strongest in over several decades - wtih more good stuff to come. So, yes, we and our customers still love our traditonal knives, but today Schrade is much more than that, and I promise we will go on to surprise our indusry with innovation, and please our customers with exciting new products.
