I just had two new Schrade SCHF3's fall into my lap. Taylor brands- that's laughable!! What I paid I was giggling to see what kind of crap came out of the boxes. For reference I do own a BK2, an Ontario RD4, and a Condor Rodan.
When the mail lady left I was stunned at the weight of the box. It was massive.
With a "Here we go" attitude I opened the first one. First thoughts--WOW! Nice looking knife. Micarta scales--black coating-- This thing is HUGE!! It has the heft of a hammer with good balance. The construction is solid, very clean. Everything fits together nicely. The serrations are....strange, but should get the job done easily. Both these knives are extremely sharp out of the box. I was very suprised to see a fairly even grind on both knives. I have seen worse grinds on knives I paid 5X more for. The false edge on the spine is a nice touch. There is also jimping on the spine which was a sweet suprise. Taking off the grips everything was even and clean inside.
They did go "el'cheap-o" on the cordage. It needs replaced ASAP! The sheath is nothing to write about. I guess to save some money? It is almost an exact copy of the RD4 sheath, but made out of even cheaper material. It does have a snap, no velcro other than the front pocket. A simple Kydex sheath would be cheaper and better. That being said It "works" but for how long?
I am not an expert on knives- nor do I claim to know much about knives. So don't beat me up too bad. This seems like a decent in-expensive alterative to the sharpened pry bars on the market. Based only on looks and feel it should stand it's ground with my other pry bars. I'm not sure how the 7Cr17 high carbon stainless steel blade will hold up. I have never seen this steel before.
For what it's worth.......
