I just had two new Schrade SCHF3's fall into my lap. Taylor brands- that's laughable!! What I paid I was giggling to see what kind of crap came out of the boxes. For reference I do own a BK2, an Ontario RD4, and a Condor Rodan.

When the mail lady left I was stunned at the weight of the box. It was massive.

With a "Here we go" attitude I opened the first one. First thoughts--WOW! Nice looking knife. Micarta scales--black coating-- This thing is HUGE!! It has the heft of a hammer with good balance. The construction is solid, very clean. Everything fits together nicely. The serrations are....strange, but should get the job done easily. Both these knives are extremely sharp out of the box. I was very suprised to see a fairly even grind on both knives. I have seen worse grinds on knives I paid 5X more for. The false edge on the spine is a nice touch. There is also jimping on the spine which was a sweet suprise. Taking off the grips everything was even and clean inside.

They did go "el'cheap-o" on the cordage. It needs replaced ASAP! The sheath is nothing to write about. I guess to save some money? It is almost an exact copy of the RD4 sheath, but made out of even cheaper material. It does have a snap, no velcro other than the front pocket. A simple Kydex sheath would be cheaper and better. That being said It "works" but for how long?

I am not an expert on knives- nor do I claim to know much about knives. So don't beat me up too bad. This seems like a decent in-expensive alterative to the sharpened pry bars on the market. Based only on looks and feel it should stand it's ground with my other pry bars. I'm not sure how the 7Cr17 high carbon stainless steel blade will hold up. I have never seen this steel before.

For what it's worth.......

WOW! I thought I'd get pounded. This silence is hurtful.......worse than getting ripped.

I think it's old news by now that Schrade's Extreme Survival fixed blades are actually alright. Of course, if I were you, I would've gone for the SCHF9, which is somewhat cheaper and uses 1095. Enjoy your new knives though. If you don't like them, I'm sure there is always someone else who would gladly take them off your hands.

I got one of the schrade single piece hollow handle knives, and was very pleased with it. Decent fit and finish and good grinds. I was kind of dull, but a very quick touch up took care of that. And wow is it tough!! Since it was free (amazon gift card) I beat the heck out of it and it asked for more. Good knife for the money

I almost bought a couple of Shcrades Extreme Survival line knives until I got a Cold Steel GI Tanto. Full Tang 1055, wicked sharp out of box, great sheath and only $25. As far as I'm concerned this knife can't be beaten at it's price and will likely be a higher value to price ratio than most comparable knives that cost more.

Glad to hear you're happy with your purchase though. Means I might get one after all. Now go out and beat the hell out of those things until they cry! Just make sure you bring back pics afterwards

+1 I wrote a review in the testing and reviews forum.

Op, you're right about the cordage. I used the knife to cut it into a million pieces. The funny thing is that it's not far off from what CRK uses. :o

I have 2 of these Schrades-one will be up for trade soon. I have 2 other similar knives and I don't see the point of having 4 of the same. I did strop the keeper with some green compound and it is crazy sharp. I replaced the cordage with 550 7 strand and it is ready for my next outing.
If only they were made in the USA.........

Someone else here who also has a thing for pry-bars!

I have just ordered the new? Schrade SCHF10. I recently got a Becker Bk2 and I really love the camp/utility/bushcraft type of knife. I also like the 1/4 inch thick blades....

My plans for the F10 are:

Chuck away the sheath
Strip the blade
Make a leather sheath and some nice wooden scales

To me the schrade line seems to be excellent value for the money. There was a video a while back of a cheap Schrade copy outperforming the very expensive Chris Reeve Project knife in a destruction test.

I would never voluntarily put my knife through a beating like that, but it's nice to know that the knife can stand up to it if it has to.

Heck, at that price who cares anyway?

Edit: Regarding the steel....

The schf10 is made from 8cr13mov which is also a steel I have not really read a lot about. It will be interesting to compare the stain resistance of the Schrade with my BK2 (1095).

The bk2 forms a patina quite quickly when used on meat etc...
