First thing, wife is out of town with the camera- no pics yet.

Soooooo, I went to the Gun & Knife show looking for a pearl in a pig pen.
G & K shows are a little crowded these days and estate sales are usually slim pickins.
Seems like the families have already pocketed the knives.

I found one knife, an unsharpened, mint Shrade Walden 787 Improved Muskrat knife
with single spring and no wobble blade play. The main blade is etched (?) with
Improved Muskrat Knife along the blade. 787 on the flip side. The sides are brown jig
and shield is labeled Improved Muskrat. I believe 1095 was used then. The blades
look to be the same. Had one been a wharncliffe, I would have spotted myself.

This knife has sat in a drawer for years and now has come home to live and work with me.
It will be used, gently. As I slice an apple with it, I'll imagine cleaning a trout or something bigger.

Life is great when you find treasures like that and to me, that is indeed a treasure. The steel will be an absolute dream to use and maintain and it's a fantastic pattern.
Congrats on a great find.

A great score and its always wonderful to find something you aren't looking for. In for the pics of this beauty

Very cool. I've hunted that one and then went astray. Must focus!

I decided to make the secondary muskrat blade very sharp
and the primary muskrat scary sharp.

This is the first time that I have felt the thinness and flex of a blade while sharpening.
I believe that she goes into my pocket tomorrow as I show her a world she has never seen.
Forgive the poetic waxing gibberish.

One of my favourites. Enjoy!:)

Here is mine.........(2nd from the right)

Not big on the muskrat pattern, but who can pass up the awesome jigging and a mint knife? Make sure you post pictures, as this thread is not valid without them.

I have the very same knife (excuse my blurry pix) as nice as it is I just don't give it the pocket time it deserves.

A buffalo is bigger than a muskrat, but it is a Schrade-Walden and it is named after an animal (sort of). OH
PS this one gets no pocket time either!

Wow, Old Hunter, that one is something I certainly haven't seen before! Very cool, I like it a lot. How old is it? And... it looks huge. What are the dimensions? Steel type?

This is pretty much what I have found about the knife (and catalog dates of 1970/71). OH

Ps I'm not so sure any futher discussion of the Bowie shouldn't go somewhere else - this thread is entitled "Schrade-Walden" but appears to be limited to discussion of S-W Muskrat's - my apology to mrjefe2u for the derail. OH

Thanks for the info, OH.

I'm carrying a Schrade Walden today, a model 163. Pretty much the opposite of a Muskrat. :p
