Shrinking Holes?

It seems that my more recent vintage Busse knives have smaller diameter front and rear holes drilled into them than my older vintage Busse knives. Is this just random chance among my knives, or has Busse Combat been moving toward drilling smaller talon holes™ over time?

If there has been a real trend toward smaller holes: Why?

The larger holes made it do-able to string paracord through them 4 or 5 times without excessive difficulty (for D guards, lanyards, lashing knives, etc.). With the smaller holes, it starts getting difficult even with the second pass of stringing paracord through the holes. The larger holes also make it easier to use other, stouter types of cord. Though it is perhaps minor in the grand scheme of things, I find real increased utility in the larger diameter holes on my older knives.

Jerry, if you've switched to smaller diameter for talon holes™, please consider this a request to bring back the bigger holes.:thumbup:

I've noticed different talon hole sizes, e.g. between the ASH1 and GW, but I have not noticed it as a general trend.

I'd noticed the Mrs and AD's went the other way, the holes are now larger than my older versions.

Some Day, Jerry might well tell you all about the entire, Whole, Hole situation.

Till then I can only sit and Sigh.

Not knowing what a particular hole is for can be very disturbing.

I have a couple old Mean Streets that have smaller dia holes.

Here is a variant I happen to have a pic of...

They are called "Drinking" holes. When the boys are drinking, they grab any 'ole drill bit that looks good.

I'd be interested to hear the history of what the hole was intended for. I'll ask Jerry, if you're not inclined to reveal the story. (My guess is that it was for attaching the Holy Tearer, or perhaps simply for a distinctive trademark.)

That said, what it was originally intended for doesn't have much relevance to what it "is for", now. I know what it's for: It's for anything I want. :) It's like wondering what a computer is for; for some, a computer is for word processing, for others, graphic design, or accounting, video production, surfing the internet, gaming, email, music editing, business sales, etc. Similarly, the hole is a useful, open-ended possibility, for people to use for braiding paracord D guards, lashing to a pole, hanging "dog tags" or fuzzy dice... anything and everything.

Jerry gets to decide what stories about why and how things get done in the Shop get told.

While I know a lot of these stories from my time involved with the Company(mostly told to me by Jerry at 2:00AM to 4:00AM while possibly under the influence)

These are Jerry's stories to make public, not mine.

But I do like to tease.
