In the event of a disaster ie; economic collapse, war or ZOMBIES!!!! or anything else for that matter.
I think it would be a good idea If we came up with a meeting place where everyone from the WS&S crew or anyone on the forum for that matter would meet up.
just an unlikely thought but its better to have a plan and not use it than have zombies gnawing on your head (thats how that saying goes right?)
what should our official meeting place be?
I was thinking somewhere with a moderate climate and lots of streams and easy food ie; rabbits dear fish and birds.
so what do you guys think?

Know of a Mall that has REI, Northface, Costco, Home Depot, and anchored on either end by Wally World and Cabella?

the bank so you can give us all $1300 checks?

;-)

Seriously -- as fun as these speculations are, I doubt that if it really hits the fan that heading out for the wilderness is going to be as easy, or as desirable, as it sounds right now.

I think it makes more sense to think in terms of communities of people, rather than some arcadian escape.

I think if you were going to try to organize something like this, it would be wisest to do it on a regional basis.

Sure do, Boise Idaho-most amount of land per capita in the country-also has 1500 miles of floatable rivers, tons of high mountain lakes and springfed streams, and all the wildlife you could ever eat.

I agree, Greece would be hard to reach. ;)

However, the woods aren't far for me and that's exactly where I'm headed if it gets bad enough....

sory, last thing i want to be around when the SHTF is PEOPLE. I cant stand them now, let alone in a disaster when they are all stressed

I don't frequently post here, but I do lurk often.

I don't know if the OP was serious or not, but I would like to throw this out there. There is no filter on joining this, or any, forum (that I know of) that can stop people from signing up because they have bad intentions.

You tell everyone to meet somewhere, and some jerk decides to organize a posse and come kill you all and take your things, under the guise of being a forum member.

Stick with meeting up with people that you know personally, in real life.

Yeah, if too many people, that do not know each other, are going to meet up, then there
are all kinds of hazards. Consider operation SHOWTIME, of BATF.

Find a good place and move there. Then make friends.

Staying home or staying close sounds best to me. A town of at least 1500 with, its own
hydro power. Those towns do still exist. Needs to have garage (car and machinery repair),
and some other essential businesses (topic for another thread). You cannot be good at
everything, so these businesses are important.
Larger towns are good for better medical care.

Mention was made of Boise; is there a lot of hydro power in the area? I remember visiting
a very big set of water falls in Southern Idaho. Southern Idaho is almost a desert, but is
made productive with irrigation. This may or may not be attractive to some people.

Whenever I'd be meeting friends we'd always have a 'secondary+' location in the event of an incident making the original meeting place inaccessible.

I started this back up plan in a pre cell phone era and when the IRA were carrying out bombing attacks in London which caused disruption, restrictions and blockages.

It worked fine, and is something I still do, as when bad things happen (London 7/7) the cell phone networks are overloaded and fail.

A good alternative location back up plan is viable even without the onset of a major disaster, with such a disaster, its invaluable!

The OP was most likely 'tongue in cheek', but it does bring out an important issue.

Your immediate family, and your circle of like minded friends should have in place, a plan for contact/meeting up/ going to, if the balloon goes up for real.

With no communication a real possibility, how would you find your wife and kids in a crisis?

Having a plan is a MUST.

How about Powell Butte Park? We can ambush hippies trying to flee on the springwater trail and eat them. :D

my friends and family live 1700 miles away, and I like it that way. Im not going back to wisconsin if something happens to pick up my family. Whoever happens to be in my immediate circle when things go down, and has the physical and mental strength to keep up with me and tough it out, gets my spare bugout bags, and I'm running for the hills.
