I got my parents a few Shun's for a decent price last summer. I got them a small paring knife, a 10" chef's knife, and an 8" Santoku. I was just explaining to them the benefits of having the VG max edge clad in VG10, and I displayed the flexibility of the knife... Only I realized the when I had finished (it didn't bend very far) the blade retained a small amount of the bend. Am I just an idiot, or is there an issue here that I should take up with Shun? Thanks.

Ate you sure the bend wasn't already there to begin with?

Depending on how far you bend it, hardened steel typically springs back unless you've bent it to the point that it stays a bit deformed. You could try a warranty return. If they don't accept it, you could gently counterbend it in the other direction, but I wouldn't recommend it until you try returning it.

I don't think it was there to begin with because I was able to bend it back. I actually did it a second time, straightening it out afterwards, just to make sure I wasn't imagining things. I think I'll reach out to Shun and see what they say.
