Does any know how the handle is made? Is the butt attached to a full tang from the blade? It sounds like the blade and handle are two seperate pieces. One being VG10 and the handle stainless. But, is the handle one piece?

FullerH Pardon me, but what is a "shun handle"?

Shun Knives are an exciting range from Seki in Japan. Exceptionally sharp blades, made of high carbon V-gold no.10 stainless steel, folded and forged from 32 individual layers of fine stainless steel hardened to rockwell 62-63 degrees. Ergonomically designed black laminated Pakka wood handles with bolsters and bottom cap in stainless steel.

Tha handle of mine is Pakka wood, and I presume the tag has a screw or peened end under the stainless steel butt cap.

Very nice knife, and well made. I have never been concerned about its manufacture, apart from it is a quality piece of professional chefs ware. Mine is made by Kai and was purchased in the UK.

Andrew,

Thank you for the info. That does help me put mind at ease. I was leaning towards this line, but had just wondered about the handles.

I have some of the agrussell Shun knives and they are great, you won't be disappointed .My Henckels have been retired !! The Shun knives are marketed by agrussell, Al Mar, and Kershaw that I know of.

mete,

Thank you. I also have the Henckel and was considering the Wusthof or Messermeister lines. Personally I like the way Shun feels in my hand and of course they look much better.
