The prime reason I got these...was to be able to listen to music and audiobooks while working in a noisy shop.

The "muting" by these earphones is incredible.

If you get them sealed correctly (takes just a couple seconds) you literally cut off the world around you.

I had some sound-isolating headphones...and they did a decent job of cutting down the noise...but I still had to turn the volume up.

With these, I have the volume at a much lower level. So, even though the earphones leave a distinct "feeling" in your ears for a minute or so after extended listening...the wear-n-tear on your "drums" is much less since the actual dB is within normal levels.

If you're considering a set of high-end audiophile earphones...Shure is the way to go.

And if you wear a set of sound-blocking earmuffs on top of them, then you're really set for listening to music in loud environments.

I used to do that....sound-blocking "gun range" muffs over earphones. Works great. But these really do block outside sound so well...I don't need the muffs. Plus the audio quality is very nice.

I havent seen these before, but I have E3Cs that I even use while mowing the lawn, without them I always wear earmuffs. They really do a great job of blocking noise.

I have some imposter shures Phillips SHE-9501 and they work almost as good as the e2c (i think) for a fraction of the cost. People dont know what they are missing with sound isolating earphones.
