Does anybody know where I can find some picks of a few different shute knives????
I plan to make it out of 440 stainless and Ivory but I only have a vague Idea of what it looks like:confused:
When did it get the name shute knife?
It will be a nice change from the hunting knives I usually make:thumbup:

Here are some very nice photos or some very nice "Chute" knives;

The Rob Brown's are fantastic. Talked to him briefly today. Well by E-mail. Here's a Lovett-Loveless Connection Combat Chute. The Chute Knife is normally made with 3/16 stock. The Combat Chute is in 1/4" stock. 416 ss fittings. Green Canvas Micarta, red liners. Mike

Dave the Greek sorry you can't make the HI tomorrow. You know you have a open invite and the family ( Mini & Cooper too) to come on over.:thumbup: :D

Legend has it that Bob Loveless was approached by some black-ops type of individual who wanted a knife to free him of his parachute when tangled in a tree. The two of them brainstormed for a while, trying different designs and such, until the chute knife as we know it was born. According to Bob it was in '67 or '68.

Bruce and Mike: verr verr nice. :thumbup:

Harry Archer is the guy in question. I believe Archer was involved in training airborne soldiers for jungle warfare/insurgency. There was an article in blade last year about the knife. Archer had the design pretty well worked out, Loveless just tweeked it slightly. later on Loveless changed it to suit his own tastes when he added it to his catalog.

"Steve" S.R. Johnson makes a near perfect rendition of the loveless chute knife.

Thanks Alex. And your correct. Archer had the need, and an idea. Bob played around with what he thought would fill that need, and Archer liked the knife. The Chute knife was born. SR. Johnson later made a different knife, a changed version for Archer with more belly, and a more dropped top clip. The design in on Steve's web site. The Loveless shop no longer puts the holes IN the guard. They haven't for many years. The Lovett-Loveless Connection Chute Knife pictured above is from the very pattern in the Loveless Shop. It is correct in every detail other than this one is in 1/4 " stock, and we call it the Combat Chute. The Loveless is in 3/16 stock. Mike Lovett http://www.lovettknives.com/
